sound and movies

Hi hope this is the right place for this.
After the upgrade to 14.04 my sound and any music/movies I try to play are running about 1/8 speed (probably a lot less)
Nvidia Ge force7025/nforce 630a graphics card installed on amd 64 6gb ram 5gb swap and 500gb hard drive
All/any help apreciated

I have trid other drivers but with the same result

Does this happen when watching movies or listening to music in a browser? Or with a standalone media player?
