[SOLVED] A million bugs after updates. Can not login

After one of the recent updates my laptop started trippin.

First of all after one of the recent updates few of icons dissapeared from desktop. Then GWENVIEW stopped displaying *.eps images saying Error Loading Image. In Chromium and other browsers videos from several websites stopped playing.

I tried to fix it using sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop, but now I even can not login!!!
After the appearance of grub it forward me to login page, and as soon as I put my login and password it do nothing and continuing to login but unsuccessfully.

Any Ideas how to fix it? Basically I just want go back to the state when everything was working.

    what ver. of Kubuntu?
    what ver. of KDE?
when you ran "sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" did it or did you get an error or did it tell you it was already installed ?

:EDIT do you have any PPA's in your source lists?

Yes it was few errors - but i am not sure which exactly, since the installation was too fast and then black screen appeared

            I had
            Code:
            ...
            ...
            Reading package lists... Done
W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net precise Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2836CB0A8AC93F7A
Now I am trying to run
            Code:
            sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
It showed about 200 packages to install

It looks like dist-upgrade was successful, but now I'm in the terminal (i guess it is the one ctrl+alt+F1) in recovery mode. What should I do next - I am not sure how to quit terminal and go back to the menu for regular boot, or something. Or if I should reboot how can I do it?

                        I did
                        Code:
                        sudo reboot
And tried to boot using the latest available in grub option 3.2.0-55-generic. It goes through the loading screen (with running dots) and then went to login screen. After entering login and password it goes back to loading screen (with running dots). Then it stays forever, while during this I am able to go to ctrl+alt+F_whatever and log in into one of those terminals.

After the reboot I tried to use the latest available option 3.2.0-55-generic. It went to a loading page (the one with running dots), and then forwarded me to the login page. After typing the login and password it went to the loading page again (the one with running dots) and stays there for ever. While I should note that it allows to switch into the terminal mode ctrl+alt+F_whatever and its working. while if im going back to the ctrl+alt+F7 it still shows me running dots
