Widgets as Screensavers
"Relic" is a relative term -- there are still a lot of CRTs in use. Besides, almost every computer I use locks its screen after a certain timeout (usually 5-15 minutes), anyway, which is required by most organisations and by many laws (like HIPAA). The screensaver is the module that accomplishes this, in general.
I don't want my kids getting on my personal computer, and one daughter doesn't want the other daughter getting on her computer. Everyone has screen locking enabled, even at home, therefore.
Although I haven't bothered with any screensaver (except the default blanking screensaver) for quite a while, when I do use one I've lately liked to use the Plasma widget screensaver method:

That way I can choose from the same set of widgets (that I use elsewhere) as the Screensaver screen.
