    Firefox and the java plugin

I've been reading around and it appears that the java plugin for firefox is a bit on the difficult side to install. Does anyone know of a way to install it without doing all of the command line stuff that the Oracle website says that you have to do?

    use muon?
the exact package for the plugin is icedtea-7-plugin or icedtea-6-plugin, depending on your version of (K)ubuntu. This is for the openjdk version, not the Oracle version. For that, you have to do some steps, but if you break it down, it really is not difficult to do. I do not know why it is considered tricky, it really isn't. It just looks that way on paper What can make it look interesting is the fact that one can have many different java versions installed at the same time, so switching between them or setting a default one can look daunting.

Ok, I'm installing icedtea. I don't run into too many circumstances where I need java anyway.

STAY AWAY FROM JAVA IN THE BROWSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, its a security disaster be it the open source or closed source version. If you must install it then you can just enable all the repos in Muon, refresh your repos and then search JRE. Honestly though, disable Java in your browser and never turn it back on unless you absolutely have to. This is quite literally one of the only ways to expose the average Linux user to Malware because we use repos for all our software etc.
