    [SOLVED] ATI and 13.04

I know Kubuntu 13.04 cr2 is still in beta.
Why is it every time there is a new version of Kubuntu it breaks the Video Drivers.

I had Kubuntu 12.04 installed and working with ATI 13.2 Beta driver.
Did an upgrade to Kubuntu 13.04 now the system only boots to the first logo screen and hangs.
I tried a fresh install of Kubuntu 13.04 and tried to install the ATI 13.2 Beta driver witch errored out with a kernel error.

I really like Kubuntu it is by far better then Ubuntu.
With Steam making a linux client I thought I could finally get rid of Windows.
But once again you broke a hardware venders drivers witch are still beta and where getting better.

How can we expect hardware venders to provide drivers for linux if with every upgrade it breaks there drivers.
There are only 7 to 8 Windows upgrades over the past 15-20 years so the hardware venders only had to redo there drivers 7-8 time.
Unlike Linux witch puts out a new version about every 6 months to a year.
Hardware venders will not want to redo there drivers every 6 months so please lets find a better way.

Standard Rant: ITS A BETA! THINGS WILL NOT WORK SO DO NOT EXPECT IT TO. DO NOT COMPLAIN. If you have an issue on a supported release then people will lend a hand. Betas and Rcs are for experienced users only. Beta drivers plus beta OS = mega headache!

It has nothing to do with the release cycle. It all comes down to whether its been properly updated and packaged for the appropriate xorg version. Like any software you need to package a program for the appropriate system. Windows programs generally do that using static libraries which is good and bad. Graphics drivers are another matter, Windows doesn't break or develop their graphics stack all that much but you still need to package for a specific stack (Therefore separate XP and Windows Vista/7 drivers). Our stack is xorg and it happens to break things occasionally and ATI/AMD tend to be damn awful maintaining their stuff. Therefore the PROPRIETARY DRIVERS break on each major upgrade as *buntu is carrying a newer xorg version than the previous which brings more features. The biggest advantage with our xorg approach even though it requires active although minimal driver maintenance means that you won't get locked out of features. DirectX 11 on XP?

Use the OSS drivers and you'll never have an issue. Performance will also suck except with Intel! Nvidia's drivers are also pretty damn brilliant and are incredibly well maintained for very long periods of time. AMD proprietary = issues. Nvidia and Intel are always the best route to go in my opinion.

P.S. What's your issue so that I can help? What does the error look like? What card and other hardware have you got? Maybe your card and driver are incompatible.

I did not mean to come across as complaining so no need to shout.
First thing I said was that I know 13.04 is in beta.
I just think there should be more caution taken with beta's.
Not every one has Intel or Nvidia cards and I am not going out and buy an Nvidia card (witch I can not stand to start with) just to run Kubuntu.
I have been learning a bit about programming in linux but it is a slow process for me.
I know how to fix the problem I just need to uninstall the ATI drivers and delete all the fglrx files from the system and reinstall the standard drivers.

Yeah the OSS drivers will run just fine. You still didn't say which graphics card you were running but I guess you don't seem interested in that anymore. Don't forget to mark the thread solved in that case.
