    KMail disappeared

    Hi,

I'm very new to linux, just installed it on saturday. i had set up kmail for my Gmail account. two days ago, kmail disappeared from my system.

It looks like it got uninstalled.. don't know how or why....

Right now, I'm also facing problems with muon, so it's very annoying.. i can see the installer package, but can't do anything.

Has anyone else faced this issue?

If you would would you define the situation somewhat more closely.

Has Kmail disappared from the menu or from usr/bin? And if from usr/bin have associated items such as kmailcvt or kmail-migrator or kmaiservice etc. disappeared also?

Well, I am quite sure that others much more experienced than myself will pop by to help much more than I can.

But, I would say that is just "odd".

But, just to be sure that it truly is not "on the system", how about you open a terminal and just simply type the word:

        kmail

You do not have to sudo or anything unless you have it password protected.

If kmail is "there" but.... for some reason it can't be seen, which is just beyond me to be able to happen.

        Then

You should see a lot of activity in the terminal, if you have not stopped the help screen from running, it will appear, kmail will appear and if you have an Akonadi account set up then Akonadi will immediately pop and if you have a kwallet password that will pop also.

If nothing happens, then, I would say that...you really don't have it on your system.

I woul then try to either "reinstall" if it says it is installed, or install it from Synaptic, not Muon.

If you do not have Synaptic, then install it from Muon.

And if that doesn't do it then report back because it is wayyyy beyond my very rudimentary skills.

Konsole install of Kmail (and other packages/updates) failed..

Hi, just tried konsole for the install.. didn't work... I am completely out of my depth here!!

First things first. In the console, type:
            Code:
            sudo apt-get update
            sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
            Then type:
            Code:
            sudo apt-get install kmail
            What are the results?

This is the code from my try... I'm wondering if I shouldn't just reinstall Kubuntu... No guarantee that this problem won't recur, though...

I have just installed kubuntu 12.04B1 and kmail is there but instantly crashes with a "failed to collect resources" error message.
Running /usr/bin/kmail from the prompt yields:

I had turned off kwallet as I thought that was the problem. Removing and reinstalling kmail does not resolve this problem.

Any help would be much appreciated. Earl McCoy

                  Welcome to Kubuntu Forums!

I installed 12.04 yesterday as a new install -- not an upgrade of an existing distribution -- and my Kontact/Kmail works beautifully.

Ensure that Kontact or Kmail are not running. Open a console. Type:
                  Code:
                  cd .local/share
                  ls -la
If you do not see the following directories:

                  contacts
                  calendar

                  then create them:
                  Code:
                  mkdir contacts
                  mkdir calendar
Close the console. Perform a log out of KDE and then log back in (I prefer to do a full shutdown/reboot after making significant changes) and launch Kontact again. What are the results?

                    The do what SnowHog suggests:

                    sudo apt-get update

                      Snowhog:

My 12.04B1 was a fresh install but not reformatting the /home directory. Kmail worked fine in 11.04.

Those two directories did not exit so I created them as you advised.

                      However kmail still crashes with:

QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
