    Sorry, it should be a /etc/modprobe.d/ . I had module on my mind and mistyped it. Never harm. Just delete that directory you added and use the right one. Sorry about that.

    My 70 year old brain also forgot about
    modprobe -r somemodname
    which also removes dependent modules. It also has some other parameters, like --show-depends, etc...
    See "man modprobe"

    You are going about it the right way -- work your way up to the tuner* modules, add the names of all modules you've removed to the blacklist.conf file and then try a reboot.
