    Defeated by Nepomuk

    Hi,

I want to be able to search my data at /media/disk; or anywhere else for that
matter. But I can't make the Nepomuk search engine work in Dolphin file
Manager. I've ticked the Enable Strigi Desktop file Indexer several times and
nothing happens except it disappears the next time I open it. I've also ticked
the right box under File Indexing tab.

It's been said that the 'locate' command is perfectly adequate search option but
I have this problem before I get Started!

    nnjond@nnjond-den:/media/disk/Dual_Data$ updatedb
updatedb: can not open a temporary file for `/var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db'
    nnjond@nnjond-den:

Also This seems to tell me nothing:
    nnjond@nnjond-den:~$ qdbus org.kde.NepomukServer /nepomukserver org.kde.NepomukServer.quit

    nnjond@nnjond-den:~$ nepomukserver 2> /tmp/nepomuk.stderr
    nnjond@nnjond-den:~$

Is there an idiot's guide somewhere?

A question: Which locale/language do you use in your Kubuntu environment?

    type
    Code:
    locale
in Konsole, and let us see what it is. I'm asking this, because on Kubuntu some UTF8 character sets make nepomuk/strigi crash from the start (This is a known bug and if you suffer from the same problem, hopefully I might have a workaround for you).

Well, your locale seems to be fine. In fact, the problem I have mentioned was caused by LC_CTYPE variable. So it seems that you have some different problem. Go into System Settings/Start and Shut Down/Service Manager or from ALT + F2 type service manager. Can you check there if nepomuk search service is running? If it is not running enable it; then search module should load at login.

        Regards.

The status of the Nepomuk Service Module is 'Running' . but Dolphin returns nothing in searches.

Does the issue show up if you select en_US as your locale? In Mave I had a problem with the en_GB locale because parts of my system would show all labels in de_DE instead of en_GB... After I changed it to en_US, everything was displayed in English as expected (I hope they fix that any time soon).

                      Check the contents of /etc/updatedb.conf

If the directory is in PRUNEPATHS, it will *NOT* be included in the database.

Thanks all. Skunk seems to have pointed out the prob:

/media appears in the /etc /updatedb.conf in PRUNEPATHS
