help needed with Remote Desktop kubuntu-to-ubuntu

Hello to everyone. I'm a newbie here and a newbie with kubuntu/ubuntu. I hope I'm asking this in the right place. I tried to get remote desktop running on my home network and once I learned how I was supposed to log in, I managed to get a black screen from the remote desktop (ubuntu) without any menus. I could move the remove mouse around the black screen, but that was it.

Not sure were to begin to check log files or other ways to diagnose the problem.

On another occasion, I managed to log in from my laptop to my desktop which uses a very large LCD screen. On the laptop, all I could see is the top left quarter of the desktop's screen. Still no menus either.

I found a tutorial for ubuntu's remote desktop, but on my version (which is the lastest) it has no advanced options

Your advice will lead me out of the dark.

I believe you may have a hard time doing this because you're using two different desktops. I think you'd have to call the other desktop manager when you launch vnc, i.e. if you're using vnc on a kde desktop, you have to initiate a gnome session on through the vnc connection.

It can be done - do some web searching on the topic.

thanks for the relpy. Maybe I will try between two Kubunto desktops. You'd think it would work if the apps are pre-loaded on the distribution iso...
