I just tried that. Didn't really work. It had to many dependency problems for some reason. At least it let me abort instead of going ahead.

I did install it but hadent decided to eat the read pill yet ..... :P

bangarang is pumping out the jams for me with no errant X windows laying around......lol
ktorrent is ok again firefox and youtube like stuff is alright ........so I guess I can whate for upgrades to fix the annoyances.

I did the deed this evening. My needs may be simpler than many others -- my music gets played with alsaplayer, my weather forecast is on a conky, and my e-mail is AOL. But, as far as I can tell, it's all running pretty much as expected. It installed the default wallpaper, so I immediately went into desktop settings and changed it to a more pleasing scene from my collection of wallpapers. VMware Player (64-bit) has an upgrade to 3.1.1, and I ran that, and it installed correctly and looks right. Music plays, Firefox looks like it always did, Dolphin looks right (I'm using this gray default Kwin decorator, which is kinda weird -- I may have to change that). I've gotten used to Chromium on sidux and I really like it better, at this point. I may install it on Kubuntu tomorrow. I have the KDE Desktop Effects enabled (I'm using the current Nvidia driver installed using the Nvidia method), and "the cube" is working as expected. I think I'll let it run overnight and see if it's still behaving in the morning.

Hello all
did the deed this Arvo and been running with it for a few hours. So far all is well and working, files open as expected, music plays, the cube works, desktop effects are working. It also seems to me that Firefox is faster then before, but that may be my imagination. It left my desktop as it was, nothing got changed. New icons in taskbar looking good.
All in all it works good

OK, fixed a majority of issues. Now get the Plymouth Splash @ Shutdown. Still have some Dasktop Themes and window Decoration Theme corruption but everything else is OK. what did I do? What I've had to do in the past with KDE 4 major releases. Renamed ~/.kde to ~/.kdeold and reset my settings.

That's most liekly due to those themes not being fully compatible to 4.5.
Either deal with it or get new themes which explicitly mention that they're compatible with 4.5.

Even Oxygen? Any way, the Log off Splash has disappeared again after making my desktop adjustments but at least it shuts down now which was my biggest concern. We'll see how things go from here on out. All in all 4.5 is nice and smooth.

For those with theme corruption, empty windows, etc. and probably due to QT4.7

I included the ppa mentioned there but it doesn't let me install the fix even if I update apt-get and try to upgrade or dist-upgrade it...

You don't need that repository anymore, as the issues with Qt 4.7 have been fixed with the latest updates.

Not really here, that is on my ATI driven system. Made things a little worse. My NVidia system is actually flawless @ this time. My ATI system is my laptop and I've never been fully able to get that ATI graphics card working 100%. If I cold get that proprietary driver working, maybe my issues there would go away, but I haven't had any luck with that.

The Ati proprietary driver (Catalyst) is working perfectly fine for my 4870 here 8)
And that's even with kernel 2.6.35-14
I've installed it from here which always has the newest version, currently Catalyst 10.8 (8.762):

After installing the driver for the first time, you need to login to a text-only console with no X server running and enter:
sudo aticonfig --initial

after updates done last night (a bunch of qt4 stuff) the extra X windows I was getting with some apps (VLC,Kmplayer) have gone away

I think that was the last of the miner annoyances.

Ever since I installed this upgrade, I found out that the login loop is back! But this time I can't even see my username on the login window... I have to type it every single time I log into my system (but I'm the only user who works on this PC). I also noticed that I have to ctrl+alt+esc-kill something right after the login screen, I think it's the folder view (not the resizeable one but the static one).

Did the deed. However, I did it in a separate installation of Kubuntu 10.04, which I did this afternoon.The following is lengthy, but detailed as to what I did, in the order I did it.
