Re: KDE 4.5 Beta 1 first impressions

Latest updates seem to have fixed kontact/kmail
    • It does feel much snappier
    • Very much like the new look
    • Find the new system tray much clearer and easier to access
    • This build of this beta seems very fragile Well it is experimental

did you happen to notice what was installed/updated that fixed it for you?

Unfortunately not - though I did notice that the kdepim libraries where *not* part of the update. Are you having the missing symbol problem?

Oddly, the old icons have started displaying in the system tray.

Its interesting playing with this Beta, but I see a clean install in my future ...

Re: KDE 4.5 Beta 1 first impressions

After todays upgrade kontact is back.

            So is amarok.

Now to see if akonadi and akonadi google behave (without lots of fiddling).

            Edit:
Amarok plays fine, Kontakt and akonadi are behaving, still can't google_cal resources to sync with google cal which is a pain as Events I type into Korgaizer will not be translated to my android phone. Goolge_contact_resource play ball though which is an advancement.

One thing I did notice in Korganizer.
when adding an event, there are no times visable in the time settings dropdown.

Now if I could only get klipper to go away when I open it and click on the desktop.

Lancelot is back , but with the big "K" icon. Have to add your own by hand, no big deal.

Oh, and still "no connection" from the network systray widget.

            Installing YAWP gives:
            plasma-widget-yawp:
Hängt ab: plasma-dataengines-yawp, aber es wird nicht installiert
HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
            4 GB Ram

              no, just missing files.

installing libkontactinterface4 and libakonadi-contact4 fixed that

Re: KDE 4.5 Beta 1 first impressions

I think we're still a little bit away from what should be an RC even though I upgraded to RC2 this morning.

                  - the memory footprint of RC2 is considerably larger than KDE 4.4 but is about 25mb smaller than RC1 was, at least on my netbook. Maybe there's still debugging code in the release but 32-bit KDE 4.4 on my netbook had been tweaked pretty well and used ~150mb of RAM at idle. RC2 uses about 225mb, down from RC1's ~250mb.

                  - on this box the logout button on the panel only shuts down the machine, which is a bit irritating since I have to go to the K menu or a terminal window to log off or reboot.

                  - kajongg looks interesting but blows up on my machine.

InotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/wizard/.config/ibus/bus
Bus:pen: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
                  IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon
                  registerWindow Invalid WindowMenu.Registrar!
                  unrecognized arguments: --socket=/home/wizard/.kde/share/apps/kajongg/socket
                  kajongg(5906)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig:

Still investigating but I have a couple bug reports to file.

                    Fixed this one.

In System Settings --> Startup and Shutdown --> Session Management if the "Confirm logout" box is unchecked the button performs the default action. Checking the box brought back my shutdown menu.

Re: KDE 4.5 Beta 1 first impressions

After today's updates alt+f2 does not work. Neither in Lucid kde4.5 rc2 nor maveric.

I have seen this on just about every kde4.x update/-grade so nothing exciting, just annoying.

                        Sorry for your situation

Works fine for me in both my Lucid and Maverick 64bit systems.

Ummm....why i can't put globe on my desktop instead of a wallpaper traditional? On 4.4.x i could do that, but now there is no option. I have all marble packages installed.

Another problem: When screensaver returns, all the desktop is blocked and i have to open a virtual terminal and kill kscreensaver.

                          It seems that now works....

I have another problem, kdm options are not saved. I can see that kdmrc have the options that i modified, but it seems that kdm don't use them, like guistyle, colors, preselect user, ....

                            Is this normal?

                              kdesudo works again, sort uf.

when using the arrows to retrieve a previous command I have to delete a letter (the last) and the retype for it to work.

Now lancelot is crashing all over the place (lucid lde4.5RC and Maveric).

I have to uninstall completely to get rid of the crash messages. >

Thanks for the tip with alt-F2 this helps out tremendously!

Not having any crashes with lancelot here (Knock on wood!)
