Re: [RESOLVED - NOT] kdesudo - bug report filed

Kdesudo isn't a KDE program (or rather, isn't part of the SC). Just learned that myself as well on another board. Kdesu is the official one for KDE. Funny thing is that even kdesu has the same error, so it's got to be something with KDE itself and not these two programs specifically (or maybe a combination of factors). Other people using KDE4.4.1 on different distros can't confirm this issue, so it could also be just something funny with Kubuntu itself.

I believe this is the same problem that 9.04 had when it was first released. I forget if it was fixed with a update or when 9.10 was realeased

The issue is not present on KDE running on Debian sid/squeeze, which uses kdesu.

It appeared to be working correctly on Lucid the other day (I posted a screenshot), but I have seen the error again since then, so it is not fixed. I'm not sure why it seems to work correctly sometimes and not at others -- I can't see any difference in the status of my system when it fails.

Hmm - I was looking the Debian sources (> Packages) - I can't find the KDE SC 4.4 packages.

Finally the team decided KDE SC 4.4.0 will not make it to the archive, but 4.4.1 (to be released on the 2nd of March) probably will land in experimental/unstable.

Dibl is, I believe, referring to his Sidux OS.

Yes, I was referring to Debian sid with KDE 4.3.4. It uses "kdesu" for root-mode KDE apps. On Kubuntu, "kdesudo" is iffy -- works sometimes, but usually not.

I violate all the rules on Kubuntu and use
                Code:
                sudo dbus-launch dolphin
                -- it works.

Well, it would be nice if the dev(s)/maintainer(s) would identify and fix this in Karmic. :P

Just upgraded to KDE4.4.2 using the ppa and the problem seems to be resolved. Launching apps. with kdesu/kdesudo no longer comes back with the failed process error.

Yes, just finished upgrading to KDE 4.4.2, and after the reboot, I tested this with Dolphin. kdesudo dolphin works as it's supposed to. Launches in root mode without the error. All is good again with the world. 8) Marking this SOLVED.
