Re: Strigi - How to setup & use

So did anyone ever figure out how to get virtuoso fully functioning in RC 1 or is this a "wait until the next RC" type thing?

I've discovered that if I do a nepomuksearch:/ in Krunner I don't get any individual results but do get an option to do a nepomuk search in dolphin, which opens up dolphin and lists all the results that should be there... even showing the tags in Dolphin's information panel.

This also works if I just go right to Dolphin and do a nepomuksearch:/ directly. Yet at no other time do tags for files show up Dolphin's info panel... and no other type of searching ( like using the search box) will work.

Since my Lucid system crashed beyond repair, I reloaded my karmic-kde-4.3, and upgraded using the beta ppa to karmic-kde-4.4. Once you do this, you must also (re)install kubuntu-desktop -- do that BEFORE you reboot. You also need to install the packages "virtuoso-server" and "virtuoso-drivers".

That being done, nepomuk rebuilds its index, and searching works in both dolphin and krunner. In krunner, if I type a search term, I get a list of files that match it. In dolphin, I have to do the "nepomuksearch:" thing, but I'm really not familiar enough with how dolphin works to know whether the fine points of searching are working.

I am using a very small set of files to search; haven't tried the whole home directory yet. But so far, so good.

install the packages "virtuoso-server" and "virtuoso-drivers".
I second that. The virtuoso files needed are in those packages.

        Searching for tagged files:

In Dolphin, click on the location bar above the file listing, making the location editable.

        The search string is:
        nepomuksearch:/hastag=

I added an entry to the left hand "places" bar using that search string. Works fine. When it is clicked, a slash is added at the end that must be removed for the tag search to work right.

Re: Strigi - How to setup & use

            OK then, simple question
            I have Kubuntu 10.04
Nepomuk is installed, running and set itself up with some backend or other after I finished the install
Strigi is apparently running and indexing my files

So how the dickings do I use the stupid thing? The file search in Dolphin does not seem to be using the stigi indexes (or if it is it is a total waste of time and space)

Ha, just found it - right click the right panel in Dolphin select search toolbar and then you can type search items in and it finds them using the index. I should have known it would be locked in a cupboard, under the stairs somewhere or other

Re: Strigi - How to setup & use

Thank you for your message. I've been using clunky workarounds to get search functionality. The Search Toolbar is easy.

It took a bit to find the search toolbar chooser even with your instructions. Right-clicking only worked only at the very top of the right panel. However, right-clicking worked reliably in the menu area (to the left of "Help" above task bar icons).

...or you could just open the start menu, er kickoff, and type your query
...or you could bring up krunner (alt+f2) and type your query.
