    Dual Monitors - Application launching

    Hi all

Am trying to move from Windows XP to Kubuntu at the moment (albeit via Wubi at the moment) and everything seems to be running really nicely so far. It's funny, after making excuses about not being able to live without certain bits of software, a day into installing Kubuntu 9.04 and I am almost ready to move completely...

Anyway, on to the question. I have dual monitors and have them working brilliantly, but am experiencing a niggle...nothing showstopping...just irritating.

After I configured a panel on the 2nd screen along with it's own taskmanager that only shows apps loaded on that screen, I noticed that almost every application I run...loads on the 2nd screen by default.

Is there somewhere where I can set the defaul launch behaviour? I used to use UltraMon on XP and it would launch an application on the screen it was last opened on..or I could specify the screen to use in the shortcut.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated

    Cheers

Re: Dual Monitors - Application launching

    Hi There,

I have had a similar problem to PureLoneWolf on Kubuntu 9.04. I have now moved to 9.10 and the problem has changed slightly.

I have 2 GeForce 5200 graphics cards and Xinerama is enabled. I normally use the left monitor. When logging in, the first application almost always goes to the right monitor. After the first application has successfully launched, any other application launches seem to go to where I last "put" them - on the left screen. This does vary slightly with certain applications. OpenOffice applications always behaves as I would expect (starting on the left monitor) whereas the first Mozilla application (Firefox or Thunderbird) always goes to the right screen. I have tried waiting a few minutes before starting the first application of a session but the result is the same.

Once the first application has started, any application started goes to where I last "put" it. It is only after log-in that the problem shown itself. Annoying but not a killer.

The joys of being left handed (left-eyed and left-everything else)!

    Any ideas anyone?

Apparently no one else is getting this problem?

I have found by trial and error that if I scroll the mouse vertically (so that KDE switches from Desktop 1 to Desktop 2 and back) before the first application launches, then it will launch where I would expect it to.

I thought I would do the honourable thing and report this as a bug. However, the Kubuntu bug reporting wants to know a package against which to report this bug. So which package would it be? Just "KDE" is not an option.

Just how do you report a bug like this?
