Uou! KDE 4.2 will be backported to Intrepid, eventually? (I know, the backports are unsupported). These guys are awesome!

Wow I didn't expect a backport if this is true. Kudos to the devs!

I'm eagerly awaiting KDE 4.2 beta hitting the PPA! (and that's an understatement)

KDE 4.2-Beta1 Provides First Glance at Upcoming User Experience

KDE Commmunity Ships First Beta Release of KDE 4.2.0, Inviting Community to Test and Report Bugs.

November 26, 2008. The KDE Community today announced the immediate availability of "Caterpillar", (a.k.a KDE 4.2.0 Beta1), the first testing release of the new KDE 4.2 desktop. Caterpillar is aimed at testers and reviewers. It should provide a solid ground to report bugs that need to be tackled before KDE 4.2.0 becomes final. Reviewers can use this release to get a first glance at the upcoming KDE 4.2 desktop which provides significant improvements of all aspects of a modern desktops.
With 885 bugs closed in the past 7 days, the KDE community is now in bugfixing mode in order to provide a smooth KDE 4.2.0 to end users in January...

            W00t! Yay!

Though the announcement appears not to be officially published yet and it still refers to 4.1 beta in places...
            EMBARGO: DO NOT PUBLISH
...but it does show they're on the way to releasing it!

November the 25th came and went and though I kept checking all day for signs of a release, I went to bed feeling lonely and distraught.

Thanks Rog131 for the sneak preview ;-)

            Update: It's now offically released!

We're a bit short of packaging ninjas this week so it's been late in
              getting done.

Packages are being uploaded to Jaunty starting today and will be
backported to 8.10 over the next couple of days.

It seems everyone is pretty eager and quite impatient to start using this release of 4.2 (though it's still beta quality - I'm one of them), but we should remember the Kubuntu devs are humans too

Arrg, thanks Justin! I meant to link to the kde 4.2 nightly builds (Project Neon) thread:

In short, we can all play with KDE 4.2 side buy side with the official 4.1

                          Cheers!

Well, yes, it is a bit too early to upgrade to it. It is expected to have issues. I really think it's best at this point to play with it in a sandbox, see my previous post on this thread
