[SOLVED] Starting to hate KDE 4.1.2 and Kubuntu

    Hi,
I am disapointed with Kubuntu and KDE 4.1.2. These are the things I do not know to solve. I use Kmenu with th Windows-like style:

    1. The Kmenu has not an icon to search files or folders in the hard drive or any other location
    2. I did not could make "quick launch" icon for my Firefox and other applications I have on the desktop. I cannot place the icon of my favourite applications on the panel
    3. In the Kmenu editor, I assigned the shortcut key "Windows Key + E" to launch Dolphin file manager, but it does not work at all
    4. The default Dragon video player does not download the codecs authomatically to play vids, I had to install KMPlayer
    5. I do not how to assign a shortkey to the "Show desktop" component, so with "Windows Key + M" to minimize all windows
    6. I want a big icon on the panel to shutdown the computer (as KDE 3.5), the KDE 4.1.2 default one is too small for my taste
    7. When I add some components to the panel, sometimes they are gone when I restart the computer

I did not have these problems with KDE 3.5
Thanks if anyone can solve some of my problems or tell me that is just bugged.

'Desktop Search (Strigi)' appears under Applications here. There's a find function in Dolphin.

    2. I did not could make "quick launch" icon for my Firefox and other applications I have on the desktop. I cannot place the icon of my favourite applications on the panel
With the new style menu, right click an entry to get to option to add it to favourites, desktop, or panel. If you're using old style, workaround is to temporarily switch to new style to do this.

    3. In the Kmenu editor, I assigned the shortcut key "Windows Key + E" to launch Dolphin file manager, but it does not work at all
Confirmed broken. That should be reported as a bug.
    4. The default Dragon video player does not download the codecs authomatically to play vids, I had to install KMPlayer
    Personally I use VLC,
    5. I do not how to assign a shortkey to the "Show desktop" component, so with "Windows Key + M" to minimize all windows
Again, probably possible, but since keyboard shortcuts seem broken anyway...

Yeah, some things seem buggy. Others just aren't there any more. :sigh:
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.

So, some are solved and others are buggy.

The shortcut daemon went under a rehaul for KDE4, this is fixed in 4.2 already (so no need for a bug report)
