    KMail won't fetch e-mail.

    KMail will not retrieve e-mail.
    One minute it was fine, a few minutes later it wouldn't respond
    to a request to check mail.

    There is no error message. There is no response from KMail of
    any kind. Nothing.

    I've gone so far as to un-install KMail, remove any trace of it,
    and start from scratch. Done that twice. No success.

    I'm running KMail 1.9.10 on KDE 3.5.10 in Kubuntu 8.04, amd_64.

    Any suggest on how to solve this problem would be greatly
    appreciated.

    Please,

    send some details about what sort of email account do you want to setup (pop3, imap) and how did you realize, that you have Kmail not working...

      How did I realize it wasn't working? As stated in the first post, when you tell it to fetch
      mail there is no response of any kind.

      I've done some research on the 'Net and it turns out this is a more common problem
      than I first thought. Trouble is, no one has the answer.

      I've gone so far as to hunt down every file related to KMail in the system, including
      the e-mail ID files and deleted them all, and re-install KMail from scratch. I've done
      this so many times I've forgotten how many times I've re-installed it and each and
      every time the result is the same, it won't retrieve mail.

      I've checked the dependencies and they are all installed. This has to be an bug
      within KMail and I hope the developers are aware of it and are fixing it.

      At this point I've moved on to another e-mail client.

            As slunsky said, we would have needed just a tad more detail to help you with your query.

            I for one have used kmail as part of kontact exclusively for the past don't-ask-me-how-many-years and never had a problem. Stop, strike that last bit, yahoo.co.uk suddenly withdrew my ability to send emails via a client - so I stopped using them. Everything's hunky-dory now

              When KMail is instructed to check mail (pop) there is
              NO response of any kind. It doesn't even blink. Nothing.

              It can send via smtp, and it can retrieve local mail, but it
              will not retrieve pop mail.

              If there was an error message I would post it, but there is
              NO ERROR MESSAGE OF ANY KIND. NONE. ZERO.

              The only thing I can tell you is it is KMail version 1.9.10,
              running on KDE 3.5.10, in Kubuntu 8.04 LTS, amd_64.

              Until two weeks ago I had never had a problem with
              KMail, but now it is worthless to me and I"ve moved
              to Thunderbird. Looked a Evolution, but it has a long
              way to go before it is ready for "primetime."

                  However, that does raise the question of how one is going
                  to make the connection to their DSL or Cable ISP?

                      You're welcome... Glad I can help

                      Network manager is buggy and doesn't response to KMail request. I found this solution since I had the same problem.
                      Anyway, I haven't relied on network manager since. Terminal console is adequate for xDSL/Ethernet connection.
