A couple of KDE newbie questions

I'm new to Linux and have a couple of questions: I am running Ubuntu 8.04, but have downloaded and installed the KDE desktop and kind that I like that a bit more than Gnome (my boot up now says Kubuntu).

    1. I started with Gnome and there are a couple of things that I am missing, and I'm not sure if KDE doesn't have them, or I don't know where to find them:

    - The real nice virtual desktop switching with the super key. It just happens on Gnome, but I'm not sure if it is one of the visual effects that I just haven't configured yet.

    - When applications are on an inactive virtual desktop, I want them to not show up in the Taskbar, but there they are. This is probably a setting, but I don't know where to find it.

    - The transparent window border when a window is inactive. I download the Crystal theme, but that's really not it.

    2. One other question. I have a SpaceNavigator and it has a small application that needs to be running to translate what's coming from the device into commands an application can understand.
I have added udev rules so that this program can start with normal user permissions, but I can only seem to launch it from a command line. If I try to start it with a session start or a desktop icon, nothing seems to happen. I suspect that it may be because it is a Motif application.

Any information or insight into either of these areas would be greatly appreciated.

you might be talking about some compiz applet.
    don't know.
default switching of virtual desktops in kde is ctrl-tab

    right-click on the taskbar.
    go to "configure -> taskbar".
disable the "show windows from all desktops" option.

    don't know.
that really depends on the windows decorations.

if motif were the issue, then your app wouldn't start from command line either.
    i think...
    xauthority issues, maybe?
    don't know...just wild guessing.

      Thanks for the reply.

I'll keep plugging away on the switching and border.

The launcher was just pilot error (expected it to work like that 'other' OS).
