is it there a plasma "quicklaunch" widget?

I want to include some widget in my main plasma panel (where I have my tasks list, the Lancelot button and everything else), allowing to launch applications from an icon, with just one click. Is it there any widget that does it?

I tried the 'folder view', I kind of understand the folder view replaced the old (kde 3.5.x) widget to do it, but I can't get it to work. I am using my panel aligned with the left edge of the screen, vertically, and any folder view there always appears as a single line with a title; no resizable, no visible contents. But perhaps there is other widget I should use.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hello,

this might help, but I haven't tried it myself:

Sorry if i misunderstand your post, but there is nothing extra to add... simply, you just first "Unlock Widgets" (by right clicking anywhere [on free space] on the panel or desktop), and then from the normal K Menu, any application icon that you right click on, you have the option of "Add to Panel".

The QuickLauncher from the link above allows you to have multiple rows and better hiding, etc., but is not necessary.

You can also add application icons to the desktop, without the need for a special folder view widget... it is pretty cool... my firefox icon is scaled to take up about a quarter of my desktop!

Here is more on a How To from Fintan. He does note that the Quick Launcher on KDE-Look didn;t work for him. I haven't had much success either, but you might be the lucky one!

Re: is it there a plasma "quicklaunch" widget?

thank you all! your comments have been helpful (though....)

@kjjjjshab: I did not know that just 'add to panel' was available from the K menu.... so I added it back for a while (I am using Lancelot). The problem I see is that icons take min(panelWidth, panelHeight) size, so they look like a big square on my panel...

@rpw, @MoonRise: The download rpw sent worked for me, just intalled the .deb and the quicklauncher works. It works just as I would expect (I am able to configure rows/columns) but only in an horizontal panel.... In a panel configured to be vertical, left edge of the screen, the default of "two rows" make every icon appear using half the height of the panel: which is half the height of my screen!!

So, thanks for the comments, and I am still looking for ideas.... so I refine the question: Any way to do something similar to what quicklauncher does (small icons, using a few rows*columns), that works in a vertical plasma panel? Thanks again!
