    KDE 4.1 -> KDE 4.0 Downgrade

    Hi all - I upgraded to the Beta of 4.1 and am now regretting it. Any advice on how to get back to KDE 4.0, or do I need to reinstall and start again?

    Thanks

    WARNING: Not tested !

    You could remove KDE 4.1 packages and then install KDE 4.0 packages.

    Synaptic package manager (FAQ: Package Managers) has search with the version number => You search with "Version=4.0.80" remove those packages. After this disable PPA repositories and install kubuntu-kde4-desktop.

    Note
    I have not tested this ! It should work but "The Devil Is In The Details".

      Thanks Rog, that did indeed work pretty well. As you say, it's just the details to sort out now. For example, the wallpaper doesn't display properly behind the login window for some reason.

      Ho hum, more faffing about called for I'm sure.

        Hi,
        I have the same problem. Is it possible to remove the Kde 4.1 packages that easy with the Adept Package Manager, too? I have tried, but it did not worked with search string Version=4.0.80 .

        Thank you very much!

        Thomas

          I had the same problem and just reinstalled Hardy Heron followed by an upgrade to 4.0.5

            I don't think so - maybe with the new version of the adept:

            http://web.mornfall.net/adept.html
            Feature Plan
            Adept 3.0

            * port to libept 0.4
            * try to recover more gracefully in case of fetcher or dpkg error
            * quick filter should work with xapian?
            o if no, do by-word conjunction
            * jriddell will hopefully look into kdesu issues so we get rid of the debconf not working problem (by using kdebconf)
            * user interface changes: modebar, new filter layout and friends
            * make it run on ?fedora in read-only mode
            * show changelogs in package details, get them from packages.debian.org/changelogs or changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs, respectively
            * ddtp (debian description translation project) support
            * new sources.list editor
            * possibly some sort of channel support: spec up a .desktop file which would contain (whatever is needed for) sources.list entry and some nice description
            * system description file to control things like supported sections, changelog site, channel sources and so on and so forth

            Adept 3 preview > Adept 3 alpha3

              OK, thanks for the answers.
              I think i will make a new clean install, if I have the time.

              Thanks Thomas

                If it helps, I did what Rog131 suggested, then installed 4.0.5 and everything is now back to normal, so far as I can tell. Better than starting again from scratch, I reckon :-)

                  I had to revert to KDE 4.0.5 after a bad experience with KDE 4.1 beta 1, I waited for beta2 and installed that and I have to say it is remarkably stable after a few teething problems. There are updates virtually every day and it is starting to look pretty good. My only quibbles are 1) why is the panel still only white on black and 2) what has happened to the align desktop icons horizontally and vertically options?

                    Doesn't anybody know the answers to these questions?
