Can't remove icons from panel

In KDE4.
A few days ago, I accidentally removed the taskbar in the panel which caused my application icons to shift to the left. I removed the icons in the panel, reinstalled the the taskbar and then reinstalled the application icons. I have rebooted the system and now I can't seem to remove any of the application icons to change their order. When I right-click on the application icons in the panel I only see "Icon Settings" and "Panel Settings".
Any hints?

I know my answer isn't what you was looking for, but I discovered how to keep the task bar from accidentally shifting, Right click on your desktop, lock widgets. You might already know that but if not it could prove helpful, it sure aggravated the living daylights out of me!
