Is it possible to have both KDE3 and KDE4?

Hi, is there any chance of having both desktops installed at the same time? Thanks!

Yes. i would recommend it too if you are installing in production PC because kde4 is still work in progress. At the login screen you choose if you want to login to kde3/kde4.

Yes, it is possible. But, fair warning, there have been a lot of posts like these from folks who installed and used both KDE3 and KDE4:

I have kde4 and kde3 installed together. It is true that there are some minor annoyances. Whatever is on your desktop will appear in the other wm, but the icons for certain themed items for applications don't cross over so you either get "little blank papers" in kde3, or the same with little "?" in the center for kde4. I helped myself with the menu while in kde3. I used kmenuedit and created folders for my kde4 apps and just make sure things stay separated. There are other issues and you have to remember for instance that when you call things up in terminal, you either have to navigate to /user/lib/.kde4/bin and issue the command, or in some instances you will have to add the -kde4 extension. If you run "systemsettings" you'll get it for kde3 and any option that controls the look and feel will have no effect in kde4. In other words, the trickiest thing is running from the command line for anything that is wm related.

If I had to do it over again, I would have chosen to partition my drive and run kde4 alongside kde3 and just symlinked commonly shared home folders. Of course that requires a reboot to switch wm's but it is less cluttered.
