borders KDE4.0

After an upgrade (KDE 4.04) the windows don't have borders anymore.
When I type #kwin --replace the borders are back, but when I restart or stop the console the border are gone again.
How can I get my borders back?

I've been having the same problem... seems like a number of people have. There's a thread discussing it on the Ubuntu forums.

One person offered this as a (less-than-ideal) solution:
ln -s /usr/lib/kde4/bin/kwin ~/.kde4/Autostart/kwin

Also, when I disabled desktop effects from my system settings and logged in again, everything worked fine. Unfortunately I don't have the nice KDE4 desktop effects like I did before.
