    KDE 4? Oh Dear!

Sorry to say guys 'n gals but KDE 4?

    1) very very sluggish
    2) no root access for changing options under 'settings'
    3) bulky!
    4) Does not log out, shutdown or anything else!

That's not much but it's enough to send me back to 3.

It is a shame but I don't think this is very good and it wont inspire any potential windoze migrants.

kde4.0 - something to play with then you are bored, NOT kde3.5 replacement. Feel better now?

KDE4 - 'still under development' and not to be installed on a 'production system' that you depend on. That's why it didn't ship with the final release of HH 8.04.

          No, it did not.

What they did was release two different downloads:

Kubuntu 8.04 now features two versions of the K Desktop Environment, a powerful graphical desktop environment which combines the ease of use, contemporary functionality, and outstanding graphical design with the technological superiority of the Kubuntu operating system. The stable release of KDE in Kubuntu 8.04 is version 3.5.9. The edgier release of KDE in Kubuntu 8.04 is version 4.0.3.

So, if you download the stable release you get KDE3.5.9. Otherwise, KDE 4 is available on the Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 4 Remix CD.

While yes the new KDE 4 may not be up to par with 3.5 and yes it is missing some of the features that I have come to love in just about any OS such as hiding the panel (hehe want to irritate me don't allow me to hide my panel) also for the life of me I cannot move my panel to my main monitor that is in front of me so that gets a little irritating. It is however fun to play with and I really enjoy the fact that some of the new versions of the standard KDE suite run in 3.5 such as the new krdc which has improved by leaps and bounds over the last version of it. One of the improvements that it now has for RDP is sound. My server at work that I do all of my work on has sound turned on so it's nice to come home and still have my desktop sounds brought with me. Anyways give the new KDE4 sometime. Nothing is ever released in a perfect shape, look at auto manufactures they release new vehicles then six months down the road issue a slew of recalls for the new vehicle so just give the guys at KDE some slack and let them get 4 smoothed out and before you know it you'll be saying KDE 3.5 whats that

Snowhog where did you get that "final" term?
              It's the same thing - Kubuntu 8.04 - with either kde4 or kde3.

#edit: are you implying that KDE4.0 is not KDE4?

Mmmmm seems I stirred it a bit.

I had got an on-line download (i.e. New Version upgrade via Adept) and KDE 4 arrived too - no option so I assumed it was complete etc. . KDE 4 shouldn't have come as a version upgrade if it isn't.

However I've now got the disk so I'm back on KDE 3.5.9 which was the default install as noted above.

And 'klerfayt' I don't have time to 'play' with applications under development and I feel just fine!
