    KDE4 and root

OK.. I know a lot of people here probably are getting tired of seeing my posts. Well, I've been able to do a lot of testing in KDE4 and have quite a few things I have found that need answers.

This one is that every time I try to run an application as root I get that the command does not exist. Ok I go to konsole to see if any further errors show there. This is what I get:

    Code:
The program 'konqueror' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: ...
Same happens for Dolphin. OK why? They are installed. Why can't root find these apps?

I've searched and found instances where root wouldn't log on at all, but that doesn't seem to be the case as I can root into Konsole. Just the other two won't.

have you tried using kdesudo, or kdesu for these gui programs? you may also want to try using the full path, ie : /usr/lib/kde4/bin/<appname>.

in hardy these programs simply don't run using sudo, no error etc, even unless I use kdesudo

Yes, I've used Kdesu and Kdesudo. Same error. I'll try the full path and let you know.

Just tried Alt-F2 "kdesudo konqueror", gave my password, and it popped right up. Dolphin did the same.

Tried that again: "Command Not Found".

On the other hand: Alt-F2 and "kdesudo /usr/lib/kde4/bin/konqueror" worked like a charm

          What gives?

            Re: KDE4 and root

Hi, sorry to bump this but KDE4 recently inspired me to make a jump from Gnome to KDE. I love KDE4 but there are a couple of annoyances which are nudging me back to the familiarity of Gnome/Ubuntu, this is one of them.

I assume this is caused by the sudo/root account not having the same "paths" set up as the user account. I have no idea if there is an easy way to match these two up but I would appreciate any pointers. I may be completely wrong but in my head, that makes sense

I am getting the same thing with anything alt+F2 and kdesudo on Kde4 beta (kde4 only)

In kde4 for HH and GG it works fine.

I still think that there are three different kde4's out there with kubuntu. I wonder why and when the confusion will end

Huh!! What!!! Where am I?. Oh, wait, sorry, got a little confused.

Seriously, I have noticed that. I have a GG install with 4 as an alternate so that I can play with it. This is the one I have that issue with. I have it installed as virtual on another machine from a more recent image and it doesn't so that. So there is something to that. A little annoying, but I do believe this shouldn't occur once the Final is released. Don't hold me to that, though!!
