    KDE 4

    I would like to try KDE 4 as an alternative to the current KDE 3 version. I followed the directs on the Kubuntu KDE 4 announcement page:
    <snip>
    Remove previous KDE 4 packages, they are not compatible (apt-get remove kdelibs5 kde4base-data kde4libs-data)
    Add deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu gutsy main to your /etc/apt/sources.list
    Install kde4-core, note that PPAs aren't authenticated so you will likely get a warning when installing
    <snip>

    I go to install the kde4-core but it is not a choice. Can I install it from the command line? If so, how?

    Thanks.

    If it's not a choice in Adept Manager, it's not a choice with apt-get either, because you weren't successful in adding the source.

    Do you know how to do this:

    Add deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu gutsy main to your /etc/apt/sources.list
    ? That is a necessary predecessor to installing the package.

      I checked the file and the source is listed exactly as you wrote. Can there be another reason. Do I need to add an authentication key?

        Check it also in Adept Manager. Click "Adept>Manage Repositories" and then Third Party Software -- it should be listed there with an "X" in the box.
