By chance I "resolved" an intermittent problem with monitor refresh rate - by removing the hidden ./kde folder in my home directory.
I've tried looking for what it is in that directory that can can do this. In Hardy Heron it seems the screen data is not set in xorg.conf, so I guess it must be somewhere in the many files in ./kde directory?
