Have I installed KDE4???

Guys, I'm completely new to this so bear with me....

I've recently installed 7.10 and all seemed fine so thought I'd go for KDE4 too. Well I think I've installed it but I'm not completely sure. I have extra applications in some of the menus (some without icons) and I have the greyed out login manager settings which I can get to if I run a command (which escapes me right now).

However I don't seem to ever get the choice of which environment to use so I'm not really sure what I'm using..

Have I missed something or do I need to to do something else?

By the way I've searched for answers but to be honest I'm not really sure what I need to search for!

There is one way to find out.
Open up adept and search for kde4-core. If it is installed you most probably have it.

if so, Log out and upon login click on sessions->and choose kde4(if it is there) then login.

scotty log out of KDE3 then on the page where you sign in you will see a little list click on 'session' and you should have the choice of KDE3. or KDE4 so just select KDE4, then sign in and you should get the new desktop!

Thanks guys.

I think I've already looked and kde4-core is there. I must admit I haven't clicked on the session bit at logon so I'll have a look there tonight.

Ok I found the KDE4 option but unfortunately after I login I just end up with a blank screen so I'm stuck at that point.

Any more ideas please?

similar problem here.... i have ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsi).I installed kubuntu-desktop from synaptic package manager, updated the source list to get kde4-core and installed it.When i choose kde session to login everything works fine but if i choose kde4 all i get, after i log in, is a blank screen and after a while a ?"plasma crash"?:
