    How to install KDE4?

    Hi,

I'm new to Kubuntu and just installed gutsy on my laptop. I figured I could check out the new KDE 4 and followed the instructions at: http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-4.0.php

I emphasize that it's a fresh new Kubuntu installation from gutsy live-cd, I only did apt-get dist-upgrade to get the latest packets. Even so, I removed the possibility of having those KDE 4 packages mentioned in the instructions, added the repository and updates sources list. When I got to the installation of kde-core, I ran into problems:

    tooth@pick:~$ sudo aptitude install kde4-core

Ok, so dependencies are broken but how come no one else has noticed this? I couldn't find anything related to this from the forum nor Google. What am I missing here?

    TIA

    Re: How to install KDE4?

    Oh yeah,

Figured it out myself. It was too obvious to trust that the sources list was in a good shape after a clean installation. Well, it wasn't. As I had no network connection during installation, all sources were commented out and after installation I uncommented only the most obvious ones, leaving some necessary in comments.

    Sorry to bother you guys...

      Re: How to install KDE4?

I am new to Kubuntu as well (and Linux in general).
I have Kubuntu 6.06 installed on a Dell laptop and it runs fine. How can I run KDE 4 on 6.06,if it even can? Or do I need to upgrade to Gutsy?

      Thanx!

        Re: How to install KDE4?

I believe that I just read recently that there's (currently) only a straight upgrade path from either Gutsy or Hardy, so my guess is that you'd need to upgrade to Gutsy first.
