Customizing Kontact

two questions regarding customizing kontact:

(1) kontact doesn't seem to offer global shorcuts. is there a way to set the program up in a way so that i can, for example, add a task or an appointment directly from the desktop, without having to switch to the program first?

(2) is there a way to customize the desktop mail notification?

For (2) got to Kontact>Settings>Configure Notifications. I don't fool with it, so you are on your own from there.
