    installing gnome

i've just installed kubuntu i386, trying to get an mp4 codec working for amarok... no luck... failed dependencies...

i thought the dependency issue was why i was switching from slackware...

how can i install gnome, the obvious (sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop-install) doesn't work bitching about gnome desktop dependencies...

    Re: installing gnome

    It's not a Gnome v. KDE issue.
It sounds as if your /etc/apt/sources.list is screwed up.
    Can you post it?

It looks as if you have some duplicate repositories in there. Can you follow these directions and see if you still get the same errors?

            hmm...

            u must try out
            Code:
            apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
            and not gnome-desktop-install
i think this MUST be right AFAIK...
