gnome games that save high score mess up files system until reboot

I did not know where to post this.

I usually get /home/user/.... (some config file) access denied or unwritable error
when starting Dolphin or Kate or Konsole; after playing a gnome game that
keeps a high score file. Also, I sometimes get a dcopserver may not be running
error. Also, apps such as FireFox will not start; it is in the task bar for a while,
but then will not start. (I did not install the whole Gnome-Desktop.)

BTW, thank you very much for Kubuntu and Ubuntu. I hope someday to fully
migrate or almost never use MS Windows. I am not a Microsoft hater, but I
do have reasons. I hope I have the courage, if I have to purchase a PC, for
it not to have any operating system installed or some version of Linux.

Maybe I messed up my installation or something. I checked out a book on
Linux/Unix; and it would seem it would take a long time to get as comfortable
with it as I am with MS Dos. Especially, right now with the mounting system.
I forgot which GUI utility eased renaming the /media/(mount name) to clearer
names than disk, disk-1, sda1, .. and so on.

Sorry for the ramble. But, except for the glitches I am very impressed by this
operating system. It must take millions of man hours to produce.

Re: gnome games that save high score mess up files system until reboot

It was happening no matter what, even without running gnome games
I unloaded the games, because the file system got messed up. After many
shutdowns, I ran fdsk and they were repaired (I think, one file ended up in
    lost-found).

I am pretty sure I found the problem. I have Kunbuntu installed on a USB
Seagate FreeAgent Desktop drive. I never loaded the software into Windows XP.
When I did, there was a was to set the power saving mode to 'never.' The default
was 15 minutes, which just happens to coincide with the time the Kubuntu errors
happen, if left not writting to the hard disk for about 15 minutes.

After rebooting Kubuntu, everything seems to be OK. I also had run the
commands posted elsewhere in the forums regarding chmod and chown; which
did not fix the problem in itself. I will try installing gnome games again some time
    today.

If anyone reads this, please tell me where to post, for the most help to everyone.
Someone is bound to have the same trouble with a USB drive, where there is
no Linux driver to 'wake up' the drive. My drive ended up being seen as a read
only file system. (When I get the chance, I will request Seagate recompile there
    driver for Linux.)
