All good, not a single error from booting ubiquity, tweaking plasma to update manager. Same for the surprising content of Proposed. Plasma 5.21.4 is out.

        Hi Guys,

From what I have read so far about stability and work ability, would you recommend someone upgrading at this stage to the 21.04 version? I understand there maybe issues still, but really, what is your opinion from what you have experienced. :-)

        Kind regards

Hirsute is pretty set for the big leagues, only fine tunings ahead final ISO on the 22nd. Maybe we will get the latest kde frameworks 5.81 this week, but it's getting late.

hmm...well... I thought that it was just a "bad burn" on my part, so, this is interesting, that i had just all sorts of problems with a similar thing.
            thanks for the information.

I continue to find this distribution to be amazingly reliable. I previously reported problems with LibreOffice and now I have pre-release candidates enabled and it is working very well. I had previously encountered LibreOffice Impress artefacts with embedded movies being displaced in the control viewing window. I now find that the video image is perfectly located.

BTW I have KDE Frameworks 5.81.0 installed as I use the staging frameworks ppa. No doubt it will be coming soon for the standard packages.

I have also tested the Wayland version of 21.04 and it still needs more refinement to catch up with the X11 version. The System Settings > Display and Monitor does not provide more than one resolution option for my Laptop screen but provides them all for my External display. Also there is no option for selecting a Primary display. In spite of this limitation, LibreOffice impress now works as it should, though somewhat slower, particularly on embedded videos which are jerky.

The old problem on not restoring the previous session is still present. Also Wayland seems to take much longer to shutdown than X11.

So from what I have stated above, you will not be surprised that I highly recommend 21.04 as a production desktop - NOW.

Already too late. The Ubuntu release-team were a little hesitant at approving the freeze exception for 5.80.0 a month ago, so 5.81.0 at this late stage is a no-go. Crucial cherry-picked bugfix patches from 5.81 applied to 5.80.0 can still go in if needed. 5.81.0 will be in backports PPA on release day for anyone who really wants the whole thing.

If we were left on our appetite at this stage in Groovy, it is not the case of Hirsute. Kubuntu 21.04 is up to date and I don't mind about not having kde frameworks 5.81.

We have tested Wayland for a long time now and it is working properly. The mouse hesitation is gone now. Also, the IPTV player Hypnotix got a workaround this winter and works now with the following cmd line that opens many other apps:

                  Code:
                  GDK_BACKEND=x11 hypnotix
                  Code:
                  echo $DESKTOP_SESSION
                  plasmawayland
For those who may want to jump, Saturday would be better. Unless the version you are running is bug free, a clean install is by far the best thing to do. Major updates are in the latest ISO.

I don't have any bugs to report since 3 weeks, even latte-dock default works fine. Not to say that I feel that Hirsute is the best version ever made by our team. +1

                  All the best,

MOK fails at work xwayland xserver updates

Important security fix today (last 3), the first package or maybe others caused a secure boot issue. Mainline Kernel no longer boots unless secure boot is disabled. sudo mokutil --disable-validation has no effect by now. First time I see that bug.

Also, since post #98, our ThinkPad booted 2-3 times in MoK with an unusual response: system reset. I would expect to see that one today.

Not the case, must keep secure boot disabled. Must add the fact that apport is disabled and that may also be an interference.

                          Secure boot issue defect installation

Booting in Wayland default, does not fix the secure boot issue.

This bug has an indication to delete the install, WE LOST THE SECURITY BEEP when entering or inside the BIOS. Unless the sound is muted, it is always an indication of a defect install.

The MoK manager bug comes from the X security updates and probably the mixture of shim this morning, nowhere else.

                          ***

For booting in MoK with <<reset system>> option, take good note that a ThinkPad has the option in the BIOS to reset Secure Boot key's default. MoK doesn't like it since recent security updates.

                            MoK manager needs attention

                            20210411 ISO

Redo the fresh install with secure boot disabled and MOK inactive (--enable-validation). No luck after update manager full content, the same issue remains when re-enabling MoK and secure boot.

MoK is not working anymore, at boot Kernel 5.12-rc7 returns the following errors:

                            error: Invalid signature
error: you need to load the Kernel fisrt.

                            Code:
                            mokutil --sb
                            SecureBoot enabled
SecureBoot validation is disabled in shim

                              Shim or xwayland issue

Knowing that only xserver is in Proposed this morning and in order to isolate this secure boot issue, the bug is in regular updates. Just made a second fresh install and the problem is in the following packages. Xserver is not part of the equation:

                              Must be shim or xwayland:

                              Code:

On my HP system I have Secure Boot disabled in the BIOS and I never change this setting.

Also, my Kernel is Linux 5.11.0-14-generic. I notice that in post #118 above, you had Kernel 5.12-rc7 which did not work, but 5.11.0 does.

The other difference is that I use KDE Plasma and NOT Wayland. I have installed Wayland packages to test it out and have found it unsatisfactory. If you boot up with Plasma, or X11, does your system work?
