    Latte dock workaround

    I really like Latte.
Not the name, mind you. It means "milk" in my native language. Click image for larger version

But then the developer is Greek, they call it "gala", so hey. Click image for larger version

Anyway, I had a bit of a problem with it.
Namely, if I minimised a window for an application that was in the dock, I would have liked to have it minimized just in the dock - not both the dock and the taskbar.
It's redundant, a waste of space, the taskbar minimized windows go under the dock, etc.

Now, I could tell KDE to not show them in the taskbar, but if I did that they didn't show in the dock either.
I asked the developer, he couldn't find a fix.
But, I found a workaround which is almost as good.
Right-click on the taskbar, Show Alternatives, Icons-only Task Manager.

You still get the double minimised apps, but they don't go under the dock Click image for larger version

I'm surprised, I thought it might be Cornish.

      Just an aside.
Of all the "docks", when I was running gnomish things I like Cairo and when I started using KDE I tried Latte .

And yes, it means "in english' "milk".

AND I DID like it... but, as with you, there are these "odd problems"...

So, I stopped fiddling with it.

BUT there REALLYL ARE a LOT of peoplw who "LIKE" dockers...

If a developer for KDE could maybe have a look at it .. the situation might be resolved. so, maybe post over at KDE.

        Just to clarify.
        a) If I use "standard" Task Manager, with the dock, what I mean by "the taskbar minimized windows go under the dock" is this:

Whereas with the icons-only mode, it's a lot cleaner.

        b) I never had any real problems with Latte. I did have with Cairo.
Even this is mainly "cosmetic". See that Kate minimised window right under the middle of the dock. One would think you couldn't get at it. But one can, by clicking the dock Kate icon.
And even if the window is of a minimised app that does not reside in the dock, an icon gets put there when it runs.
It's just ugly. Click image for larger version

Ummm , so why not move the default panel to the top or side of the screen , instead of one on top of the other .

          just saying

            Because
            a) I have every sixteenth of an inch of screen real-estate perfectly mapped out to my liking, and
            b) The icons-only thingy works perfectly for me

              auto hide the panel.

Indeed, that is another possible workaround.
For some reason though, I still prefer the icons-only thingy.
I... kind of like having the panel there, it's... somehow reassuring

FYI you can make the panel very dock like , by using the "icons-only thingy" and pining your favorite apps to it .

I am still not sure why you do not turn off the panel's widget responsible for showing the currently opened windows (I haven't use it for so long I do not know the correct name). You could still access the Kmenu and see the system tray, just no apps hiding behind your dock. I do that to my panel to simulate macOS (ie my panel is on the top; with Kmenu, Global Menu, spacer, systray, and the time). and I have the dock on the bottom.

Anyways, Latte shows all opened apps anyways. If you need/want another method you could map one of your mouse actions to "Switch Window", so when that button is clicked it will present a list of running programs.
                    Nowadays I'm mostly Mac, but...
