Not really Kubuntu-related, but I did get the idea from Plasma 5.

You know the little Terminal window you can have at the bottom of Dolphin, Kate, etc. by pressing F4 (or clicking the relevant icon)?
Luvely, innit? Well, I really love it

Now, wouldn't that be even more useful in a browser?
Say you are searching far and wide for a possible solution to a possible problem.
I'll bet some of you have done it ;·)
Well, you know, you often find things to type copy/paste in your terminal, right?

So you have to have a separate terminal window, and switch... and I like my browser window where it is, taking up all the screen except for the system monitor... anyway,

- What do you think?
- Would you know anyone who could write it?

Not at home, so I can't confirm this, but: "You can open the Command Line Interface by pressing Shift + F2."

I ALWAYS leave a konsole open. It's a simple matter to copy/paste (either direction) between a browser, CLI, office app, anything else.

Shift + F2 does nothing.
If you're referring to this page, it's about "specifying various startup options for Mozilla applications".
And I wonder what Shift + F2 is, maybe they mean Alt-F2 ;·)

I don't always leave a konsole open, but it's a very simple matter to open it
The reason I would like one to open/close at the bottom of the browser is:
I like my browser to use as much screen as possible.
That is the whole screen except a small strip at the bottom for the dock, and a... say one tenth of the screen to the right, because my system monitor is there.
I don't like anything to cover the monitor. I'm a control freak :·)

So, if I'm browsing, and open a konsole, it goes over the monitor. (Argh, the monster hidden process from hell is waylaying me, is my CPU overacting, is my network usage reasonable... etc.)
So I move the konsole over the browser. Then get to the browser to read/copy/whatever, it goes under, then switch to the konsole to write/paste, I can't see the browser text too well, switch... and so on.

Not a big deal? Certainly not.
Would I like to be able toggle the Konsole at the bottom of the browser? I'd love to.
Don't you like that in Dolphin and Kate?

Everyone seems to have forgotten all about Konqueror.........



But, honestly, since I can't find any browser based terminal emulators that are are not made specifically for connecting to external machines, there must be little use and interest for such a thing. Probably too complicated for the purpose.

Alternatives: drop down terminals like Yakuake and Guake,
chucking the browser window at the center of one side of the monitor to 'snap' it to a half-screen mode, and then do the same with Konsole to have a split screen setup
Alt-tabbing between windows.

Maybe it's just me, and I'm good with that, but I find it very satisfying to be in touch with my data and my computing actions. The more that bytes come between me and my data, the less useful I feel in the process

Still, I wonder why they put the F4-terminal function in Dolphin and Kate if no-one ever uses it.
Just saying, I do, I really like it, and I (would) find it even more useful in a browser.

Who says no one uses a terminal in Dolphin? I always have a terminal pane on my Dolphin open, and have since Dolphin had the feature. In other word, a very long time.

Having a web based terminal seems to require setting up and running a web server with some javascript code addons, as far as I can see, which is completely overkill and then some.
You can of course do this using any number of tools, probably the 'simplest' being ajaxterm, which is in the repos. No idea how much work is needed to set up Apache web server, though.

All I would need is something that would open a normal /usr/bin/konsole at the bottom of the browser window, and resize the windows accordingly.
Pretty much like Dolphin does.

That would take a custom coded browser UI, not a browser extension. Like the old, swiss-army-knife file browser/web browser/etc that is/was Konqueror. There is that option, at least.

I installed Konqueror, and it does have it. Nice.
I guess I'll use that for my "fix this stuff" searches.

Shift + F2 does nothing.

Maybe that's ctrl-alt-F2, to start a linux console. (F3, F4, F5 and F6, do too; ctrl-alt-F1 gets back to the GUI.) I found it very useful, on occasion, years ago with various hardware problems, but I rarely use it these days. (Thinking about it, I did something stupid a couple of days ago, and used a linux console to kill it.)

Alt-F2 starts a little drop-down that can do a lot of stuff, with a lot of smarts, not just a command. F.ex., if I type 180 knots, I'm told that's 333.359 km/h.

Yeah, Alt-F2 is the same as Alt-Space or right-clicking on the desktop and "Show Krunner".
But. What I would like is a Dolphin-style bottom-konsole.

I maintain that if it's useful in Dolphin, even more so in a browser.

Anyway.
I asked a programmer friend of mine (IRL) if he knew anyone who could do it (he's from Rome, lives in Philadelphia).
He said sure, this girl will contact you.
She did (she's from Rome, lives in Edinburgh). Now, I'm - partially - from Rome (live in Ibiza), so...

She says, ah, it's all sandboxed, won't allow access to host system, security, blah blah, try yakuake.
So I did.. I wonder why I can't tell it to drop up from the bottom instead of down from the top... but it's almost as good enough as the Dolphin F4.
