in https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...will-not-start GKNByNW asked about a problem with virtual box, but the admin (snowhog) decided the forum should be closed, closed it, and suggested I post a reply here.
I know little about virtual box, having never used it. But GKNByNW gave a link to the vbox-install.log and I understand what to find in it, so here is my finding. In 230,000 (once formatted to a line length of 80) lines of log the line that is important is:
A google search for that error shows bug reports for virtual box. See, f.ex., https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/18315. GKNByNW's underlying problem may be provoked by Ubuntu's "back-porting so aggressively to stable kernels".
So, what virtual box version? Can you install another, 5.2.27 or later?
One might also be tempted to suggest that using a release that's past it's end of life is vulnerable to problems like this, but I'm not sure this applies here.
