    Looking for laptop

If this is the wrong place for this then a moderator can move it. I was not sure where to post.

My brother is hoping to find a Kubuntu 18.10 laptop between $400.000 and $500.00. Probably a used for that price range Maybe a refurbished hopefully with a warranty for a year or so. He wants 16 G RAM, USB 3 3 or more ports, HDMI external port. Can also be DVI but at least HDMI, DVD Blue Ray, At least a Intle I5.
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

Might want to look at IBM/Lenovo or even Dell. Used IBM/Lenovo laptops are generally very good at Linux, and would be my first choice. Warranties might be available, but don't really count on a long one for used laptops.

My new lenovo with an 8th gen i5 was 600 last year, I am sure used ones will be found in your price range. Dell business class laptops also seem to have good Linux support, and refurbs can be quite affordable as well. Lenovo has an outlet store but I think they are pricey, while there is a Dell reputable auction site that sells lease returns and refurbs with a good range of prices and specs I think they have warranties, but probably not super long. The Lenovo outlet ones have proper warranties iirc..

Depending on how old a laptop you find, a blu ray disk player may be less common these days.

replaceable repairable batteries, laptop, easy replace hard drive

        Hi
the replies have been good and you seem to kind of be in the ballpark of what you want, here are two items that I would mention, having built desktops for years and also installed on several lappys.

        A) the battery...if "all else is ok between two machines, look at the battery and ask a service person at a second hand lappy place if the battery can be "serviced / repaired / etc"... basically can "batteries be put in it but it needs a special tool that you do not have without breaking the case"...in other words can you take it to a service person to replace the batteries inside A BATTERY CASE...or is it a "massive solid piece" battery... it would cost more for me to replace batteries in my lappies than to buy new lappys!

        B) can you "get at" the hard drive "reasonably easily". My older Sony Vaio literally has to have the upper "half" of the keyboard "clamshell" lifted upward and removed to get at the hard drive...not a good experience.

However, my Toshiba ... flip it over, remove a screw and a cover, lift the end of the HD and pull it out...

I know... you are probably thinking that you would never do that...but...never say never, never say never again... as the James Bond song goes! :
