Kali linux on my phone? Now this looks interesting....

I don't know if I would spend much time penetration testing from such a tiny screen, but you could do worse for an open source phone OS, I suppose.

I've been looking at the https://www.plasma-mobile.org/what-is/

Supported Devices: Nexus 5X (bullhead), Nexus 5 (hammerhead)

The Nexus 5? What's wrong with it? I mean if you're replacing the software anyway.

The problem SpecialEd is referring to is the short battery life. About 6 hours. The good side of that is that it can get 4 hours of use after 10 minutes of recharge. IOW, it is a fast recharger. But, as you say, battery life will depend on the OS, and Plasma Mobile is probably going to improve on that battery life.

The 5 is from 2010 and the 5X is from 2013. They are made from plastic, not metal frames. Amazon sells them unlocked for between $90 and $200 depending on the vendor. Ebay is selling unlocked 5 and 5x for between $80 and $200 also: good, better, like new.

I'm still getting 80% of my original battery life on my iPhone 6+ and I won't be updating to iOS 12. So, I probably have 2 or 3 years left in my smartphone. By then Plasma Mobile will probably be running on a more recent Galaxy.

their also seams to be a serous boot loop issue with them after some time ,,,,but maybe the new OS would fix that if it includes a different boot loader (fastboot) but I do not know .

Bummer. Doesn't sound like the best use of my money. I'd rather buy something I'm sure will work.

                  TheNexus 5X boot loop problem:
                  Easy fix (IF it works):

Hard fix (IF you have the equipment or pay to have it done)

Coincidentally enough, nethunter, which I originally linked also runs on the nexus 5.

I'm wondering what the best way to get one of these running on my provider is, though. Probably I would have to get a stock nexus 5 and mod it after it was already working with verizon.

"Like New" or good versions are on EBay for around $80-125 US. They are already unlocked but need a SIM from a vendor like Verizon.

Thanks for the info. I'm afraid in my case none of these phones, neither the nexus 5, nor the phones listed on nethunter link I provided will work on Verizon.

Probably not. Perhaps with one of the discount vendors like "SmartTalk", or what ever its called. That's why I abandon the idea of installing Plasma-mobile on a Nexus.

I may just focus on locking down android for now. It won't necessarily be easy, they've introduced lots of features to limit your control over your own hardware and software.
