    Oshunluver MIA for 3 days

    Hasn't posted since the 10th.

He lives in North Carolina so I'm assuming he is dodging a hurricane.

Hope things go well for him and his bride!

Yeah, we had to evacuate Tuesday. Took the wife, the kids, the dog, and loaded the RV and drove outta here. Ended up in Asheville NC and spent a couple days there, then last night road the northern edge of the storm back to our now-flooded house. It's a total mess, but the family is OK. Most of New Bern is a total disaster, but we just got about 6 inches of water in the house and a couple feet in the garage. Lost all the appliances, 3 trees (all fell AWAY from the house), and a lot of drywall, flooring, molding, etc. Lost some electronic stuff too obviously, but not the PCs. I had time to move them out of harms way.

Gonna be a busy couple weeks...

ouch ,,,,hope your insurance is good , all that drywall and trim work throughout the hole house is going to take a wile , hope you and the wife like the coziness of the RV ,,,,OK not funny.

I spoke to soon in that PM , right after responding the rain and wind picked up and an old dead limb in the maple tree out front fell on the roof , not big enough to go through but apparently it it did brake through or rip the shingles where it hit (it's been raining hard and steady so I have not been up their to see ) but I just lost 2 ceiling tiles in the living room right over where the wife sits .

now theirs a bucket on the floor catching a steady drip,,,drip,,,drip O well I know what I'll be doing tomorrow

now where near as bad as you have it their however my friend.

Vinny, that's the nice thing about a flat, 3- or 4-ply, hot-tar roof. You just jump up there with some wet-and-dry tar (about $15 a gallon), scrape away the old, apply new tar with roofing membrane (cheap, too), and you're done. The trick is finding WHERE that leak is on the roof, but there's some tricks to get at that.

Besides, you needed a vacation, didn't you?

LOL yes , I was roofer for a few years as well , and know about those , you have a
Hand Spudder for scraping out a depression for the new tar ?

I used to do hot tar moping down 90lb role roofing in FL before the ceramic tiles got put down , and flat decks with 4 ply fiberglass and gravel , and metal 5 rib panels .

going to give the home owners insurance a call tomorrow and see if I can get a new roof , this ones 15-16 years old .

Nope, that must be an "advanced" technique! ;-) Out here, for small repairs on hot tar 3- or 4-ply rolled, we just sweep away the gravel, clean off the dirt/debris, see the penetration, and apply the tar and membrane at that spot. And that actually works. Saves hundreds of dollars calling a roofing company out. Ditto for repairing leaks around skylights and vents.
