The cost you may have to pay depends on how far the fibre is from your house. So extra work may have to be done so that a line can be laid to the curb next to your house and then from that point your connection will be free. I certainly hope your connection to fibre goes easily and you are able to get a high speed connection.

I just checked my connection speed and it was 269 Mbps download and 24 Mbps upload at 10 am local time.

I am still working on that here. The mrs didn't want to bother with fiber fibre (fie-bray how it looks to me) to the curb or node (it is her house), and we thought it was going to be $$$$ to wire up for FTTP. So I still am on metered mobile data.
But I did find out that the connection is free, so the hard part is choosing one of the 13 million NBN providers

This sort of highlights my edu-ma-cated guess of dependencies being out of sync temporarily.
    It will be sorted.

But seriously, if you reinstall again, do seriously consider using btrfs and install and set up Timeshift. Seriously. You will thank me. The amount of time saved from reinstalls and waiting for things to get fixed will be quite seriously dramatic.
I do use btrfs and as I am on a fibre-optic connection to my house, downloading a new install is very convenient compared to when I did not have fibre to the premise.

I do not know how long it will be for Kontact to be available, as I currently use 24.10 and will not use 25.04 as my standard edition until Kontact is fixed!!!

Looks like I will have to wait for next week. I could not locate akonadictl in synaptic. It looks like the problems are with Kontact Version 24 as Version 23 works on my other systems.

In my frustration, I decided to reinstall 25.04 and that made my attempt to install Kontact produce a dependency problem. The graphic attached shows the error.

Temporarily broken or mis-matched components while things are being updated or upgraded.
You know, the usual pre-release development stuff that happens every cycle...

Try starting an individual kontact component, say Kmail, and see if this gives you more messaging.

    Or better use akonadictl.

Otherwise, roll back to a previous snapshot where things were working, and wait until after the weekend to try updating again.

I can no longer start Kontact. I get an error:
"The Akonadi personal information manager service is not operational"

If I start at the command line I get :
    kontact
QSocketNotifier: Can only be used with threads started with QThread

I have searched high and low to resolve this and I hope there is someone on this forum who is able to help.

Just 2 Months before the Release of Plucky Puffin 25.04

I am very pleased that it is only 2 months before the release of 25.04 and there has been a multitude of updates since I first installed this system. The positive side of all these updates is that my system has continued to be very stable and useful. I certainly hope that others who are now using this system have found this to be so. To give you an idea of progress so far, I will list the System Information Centre version number updates over the last month.

1 Month Ago 2 Mnths To Go
    KDE Plasma Version 6.2.90 6.3.0
    KDE Frameworks Version 6.10 6.11.0
    QT Version 6.8.1 6.8.2
    Application Version 4:24.12.1 4:24.12.2
    Kernel Version 6.12.0-10-generic 6.12.0-16-generic

As you can see, all versions in this list have been advanced. I am very impressed with what the developers have achieved over the past month. Just for the record, the first version of Plucky that I installed, had KDE Plasma 6.2.3, Frameworks 6.8 and QT 6.7.2. These figures show how much progress has been made in the past 3 months.

I must congratulate the developers on their high quality of workmanship that has provided me with such a reliable system up to this time

To give you an idea of the progress, I will now show the difference of the System Information Centre Versions over the last month of development,

I have noticed a good performance increase when using opengl and vulkan in games when using the Wayland session, and here's hoping that the addition of the newer kernel and mesa libraries will increase it some more

It is Now 4 Months before the Release of Plucky Puffin 25.04

I got 25.04 installed when it was first released. I encountered a problem in getting such an early release installed because I used my default monitor resolution which is UHD. I am not sure if an installation now works with this monitor but I know for sure that a lower resolution works.

So it is now 4 months before the release of 25.04 and I have experienced a multitude of updates and they have not broken my system. To give you an idea of the progress made since my first installation, I will now give you a comparison of this with the 4 month version of Plucky Puffin 25.04. So listed below is a table showing the main differences.

Info Version 1st Puffin 4 Months To Go
    KDE Plasma Version 6.2.3 6.2.4
    KDE Frameworks Version 6.8 6.9
    QT Version 6.7.2 6.8.1
    Application Version 4:24.11.80 4:24.12.0
    Kernel Version 6.11.0-8-generic 6.11.0-8-generic

As you can see, all major versions have been advance with the exception of the Kernel version. After all my frustration at getting 25.04 installed, I am now very impressed with what the developers have achieved and are definitely to be congratulated on a job well done.

I am sure that there many others on this forum who continue to enjoy what the developers have achieved with Kubuntu and Ubuntu 25.04.

This is my first look at Plucky Puffin 25.04 compared with the final status of Oracular Oriole 24.10. After many failed attempts, I finally got 25.04 installed. The main reason for my problems relates to the fact that I have a UHD monitor and the installation gives two choices for the monitor resolution. If the default is selected, the UHD resolution is applied and I have never got this option to work. The lower resolution works. One aspect of the current installation process is that you have to always remember to wait for the processing to finish. For example I did all the prerequisites to start the installation of Plucky before I went to bed and in the morning I was presented with a black unresponsive screen. When I powered off and rebooted, behold Plucky Puffin was there in all its glory.

So I have now installed all my applications and am in a good position to compare this first Versions in Plucky with my last versions in Oracular. So here are the differences.
    Kubuntu 24.10 Kubuntu 25.04
    KDE Plasma Version 6.1.5 6.2.3
    KDE Frameworks Version 6.6.0 6.8
    QT Version 6.6.2 6.7.2
    Application Version 4:24.08.1 4:24.11.80
    Kernel Version 6.11.0-9-generic 6.11.0-8-generic
As you can see, all major versions have been advance with only a minor difference in the Kernel version. After all my frustration at getting 25.04 installed, I am now very impressed with what the developers have achieved and are to be congratulated on a job well done

I certainly hope that others on this forum are successful with getting 25.04 installed. Just remember that if you have a UHD monitor, use the low resolution monitor option and the installation will proceed. Monitor resolution can be corrected after installation
