Doh I should have caught that one. Thanks!

For the OP: once the X11 session has been selected at login, it *should* be the default choice that appears, so no extra clicks would be needed at your login screen.

But for usable modern display and the like, Wayland is the tech that the Xorg devs moved to.

Wave back! (Waving emoji - can't seem to find one here! ? ? ? ) Cause I ain't moving past X11, period. Full stop. Thats a hard red line, and I've stated this... My journey to build and maintain my systems, and those for work are coming to a close. I am probably doing the last few builds I am going to do. I have some mission critical stuff, I want to rebuild/replace, some new boxes to setup for a simpler setup... some special niche stuff I do, and one last big mega personal box.... but I am closely approaching, Done, peace out..

Why? Lets review a few things...

X11 has XDMCP! Its insecure?! ! Only if you don't do it with SSH, Simple. Where is that in wayturkey? HOLD THOSE FINGERS! NO vnc, rdp (really!!?!? Seriously ) etc. are NOT CHOICES for this. For very specific reasons. And its insecure too! Unless again you use SSH. Some do have some encryption built in.... but its not the default!

X11 Multi Seat? YES, I do this!

YES the past is present here! All of this is the ORIGINAL "thin computing/cloud computing" setups.. If I could find some ASR33's I'd probably pipe out the NOAA WX wire data out to it! cchchchchchchchchchchch ding cchchchchchchchc ding!

YES I do use krdfb/krdc to do remote stuff in very limited cases. I use XPRA its basically screen for X11, and while I think the dev for that is working on doing wayturkey, I don't care. )

I really don't care about the wittle whiners who got their feelzs hurt because the X11 dev setup didn't cater to their wittle bratty ways! YES 100% X11 needed to be developed to X12! DId they do that? NOPE They threw the baby, the bath water, and the bassinet out! NO!

X11 networking is a big thing in the way I do things, have been for decades, along with multiseat. Basically once I leave, my job will have to rip out all the stuff I've done for decades as its based on LTS as it should be! Thats how I got Linux in! Now this ONE DECISION will cause it to revert to a virus. Oh well I will be long gone. Suffer.

And yes this is something that is a very touchy point with me! I am not amused! Just as I was not amused when pulseaudio was shoved down my throat, same with systemd...same with snaps! NO, DEBS forever!!!

      uninstall the package plasma-workspace-wayland

Yeah, I doubt its that easy... and as the other post shows KDE 6 doesn't separate it.. just as I figured! Its got its tentacles already in things it should not! URRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!

Yes, aware of that, I didn't include it originally as thats the default behavior for the greeter ( ? ? ? ? ) ( or at least its been my experience and the expectation, since forever like if you had say gnome (pffft) , XFCE or something more beside the PREMIER KDE (Sue me I am old, grumpy, grouchy and I have very strong views/opinions on how things should be done! ) BUT, I don't want that choice to even appear. I only want X11 to start ever, period. I don't want wayturkery. I thought some where the greeters looked for possible "sessions" ie, KDE or something, and offered that based on some file or something... I can't seem to recall or find that now... of course.. I am well aware I am the corner niche situation.. as most will just accept what ever comes down the pike, cough snaps (blech!) cough

Urrrghgh.. I need a drink now...

What I'm about to say, is said 'tongue in cheek'.

        Linux doesn't revolve around you.

The rotary phone is no more.

Betamax may have been the better format, but nobody wanted it.

Analog cell phones had better sound quality, but digital is here to stay.

        Life just is.

Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Nice rant. I'm somewhere near that. IMO Wayland has put quite a burden on the plasma developers, and I'm waiting for kwin (or whatever our compositor gets called) to support the things I want, like the scripting support that wmctrl gives. Really, it's my desktop, and I don't like be told I can't do things with it I've done for decades.

Release Eve for Oracular Oriole 24.10.

During this last month the developers have continued to make significant advances to Oracular development. This is illustrated by the Version changes in the current Info Centre listing since last month which is shown below.

1 Month To Go Release Eve
            KDE Plasma Version 6.1.4 6.1.5
            KDE Frameworks Version 6.5.0 6.6.0
            QT Version 6.6.2 6.6.2
            Application Version 4:24.08.0 4:24.08.1
            Kernel Version 6.8.0-31-generic 6.11.0-8-generic

In the above list, only the QT Version has not changed which is no surprise. I am very pleased with the stability and performance of Oracular. As this is the Eve of its release, this topic will shortly become irrelevant.

For those who wait for the initial release, I am sure that Oracular will be a very stable and bug free as the developers have done an excellent job at producing this latest version of Kubuntu 24.10. So enjoy this new release.

Sorry for the delay in opening the new forum! It's now open. Should have done it yesterday. Got sidetracked.

EDIT: Update completed. No issues encountered.

EDIT2: Unable to boot into Windows 11 from grub menu. Error message: "error: cannot load image. Press any key to continue...".
Booting into Windows from F11 (CMOS boot menu) works fine.
Grub menu worked perfectly with 24.04
Same issue - grub can't boot Windows (10 in my case).

Also, when grub fails booting into Windows in this manner, you then can't boot into Kubuntu either. Grub says something along the lines of "load the kernel first." So you have to restart, only choose Kubuntu, and only then will it work as expected. Wild.

The only way to boot into Windows is to select it as priority in UEFI.

Is there any solution to this in the pipeline, or should I just downgrade to 24.04, which dual booted without issue?
