How it affected me was that my right eye, which is dominant, sees the right half of the text on a page, and the left eye, which has moved to the left and lowered a bit, picks up the left half. My brain merges the two and gives me a line composed of half the lower left and half the middle right. I learned to literally "turn off" vision in my left eye so that it wasn't merging with what my right eye saw. Later, near the end of grad school, a one handed ex-Navy eye doctor did surgery on my left eye and tied a muscle in a knot to bring the level of my left eye to that of my right eye and bring it in so that the pupil was where it was supposed to be.

It took me several months to convince the FAA that I wasn't seeing double vision, which I wasn't, before I could get my pilot license. Over the years since then the muscle knot put in by the surgery has relaxed, or the muscles stretched or lost tension, and my left eye floats down and to the left again, but not as bad as it used to be. I still needed prismatic lens to correct for the problem. Even after I had Lasik eye surgery to correct my vision I still need a small amount of prism to correct the drift. I find myself using my right eye primarily for everything.

GG; I had a similar situation when I was in a severe car wreck at about 23 yo. I spent some time in traction and discovered that I had double vision. I'm guessing I smacked my head pretty hard in the wreck. It took a couple of decades but my vision is now (nearly) back to "normal". I still need glasses for myopia. Someday, when I'm rich, I might look at Lasik, or whatever is available at that time. 'Course I have to live that long too...

I wouldn't recommend it. My experience was that Lasik corrected one eye to 20/25 and the other to 20/30 from 20/400 in both. Over time my vision has worsened to 20/35 in both. Just barely able to get a drivers license without glasses restriction, but not as sharp as I want.

However, the big problem is IF, in the future, you need cataract surgery. If you've had Lasik surgery they cannot determine what diopter to make the plastic intraocular lens so it's a trial and error situation, costing $1,700 for each eye for each trial, till they get it right. That's because when they cut the cornea to remove the crystalline lens the shape of the eye collapses. I learned this by doing my own research after the optometrist, who recognized that I had previous Lasik surgery, determined I had small cataracts and made an appointment with the eye surgeon. I canceled the eye surgery and did further research. I read that N-Acetylcarnosine was used to treat cataracts in dogs and other mammals. I researched it and found that an eye drop solution of 1% N-Acetylcarnosine sold at Amazon and called Can-C (other brands include BrightEyes III) is available for people, but no where on the label does it mention being a treatment for cataracts because the FDA forbids it. I bought some and over the period of 6 months the cataracts were dissolved. That was about 5 years ago and I haven't had to use it since.
