Shuttleworth should have created a Facebook (dob 2004) instead of starting a Linux distro back in 2004?

It would be nice if you made sense without having to wade through this esoteric mumbo jumbo with references that are oblique at best.
If you hate Shuttleworth, that's fine. But go use a different distro then.

BTW, there is no law or ethics which demands that people cannot make money off of GPL software.

I read in a German computer mag a few years ago that Shuttlesworth was investing an average of $10M/yr into Ubuntu and hoping to reach a break-even point within a decade. (That part of the article was deleted a week or so later) I don't believe he did. You will recall that around 2012 he cut the step kids off, stopped sending out free CDs of Ubuntu to any and all who requested it, and began taking more aggressive action with Canonical, becoming more of a dictator rather than a "benevolent dictator". all in order to make it turn a profit. He called Microsoft bug#1. Now, with the appearence of Ubuntu's CLI as a virtual Linux OS within WIndows, he has capitulated. Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

It has become clear that both RH and Canonical have found that the best way to make BIG money with Linux is in the corporate server market where they make the sale and supply the support ... for $$$. I say, more power to them. Linux is still GPL and corporate servers aren't my concern. They can use GPLv3 to link proprietary blobs onto their server software till the Moon turns green. The Linux desktop is where my interest is focused.

PS- Asimov was for decades my favorite SciFi author. IMO, the trilogy is the best ever written. Robert J Sawyer comes close.

the DRIFT started in the middle sixties...

from "hard" science fiction" Asimov...to 'soft" science fiction Heinlein...but it was really started by Andre Norton...

I was GREATLY DISAPPOINTED when I actually WASTED...WASTED...WASTED MONEY...to go and see "I, Robot" the film...
