Sometimes, without any discernible reason, Steam apps quit working, or won't start, which is always guaranteed if you don't have an Internet connection at the moment, so your installation can be "verified". Many commercial apps are moving to subscription systems, which also require an Internet connection for verification. Recently I had a problem starting Universe Sandbox^2. It turned out that Steam's help desk no longer helps. I was directed to the site of the original developer. He identified the problem as a "Steam problem" and I was redirected back to Steam.
I started looking around for a replacement for US^2. A couple days ago I found it. It is called Gaia Sky. Absolutely awesome.
Gaia Sky is a real-time, 3D, astronomy visualisation software that runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. It is developed in the framework of ESA's Gaia mission to chart about 1 billion stars of our Galaxy in the Gaia group of the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut (ZAH, Universität Heidelberg).
