System76 anyone?

I know I'm not the only happy System76 user here, but thought it would be interesting to see who else has computers from them and what you think about your computers. I absolutely love my Kudu Professional laptop as I've noted before. Even though its backlight no longer works (had a little problem when I was installing its new keyboard), I still love it. What about you? What model(s) do you have, how do you like them, if you've had occasion to deal with tech support or customer service were you satisfied (I was)? And, of course, did you replace the installed Linux with Kubuntu?!

Given what little I've heard about them (System76), and assuming you could afford to be without your laptop, I'm sure that they would fix it for you for a reasonable fee; you just have to ask.

My son bought a System76 Gazelle several years ago, 3 or 4 I think. It is running Neon and is running faultlessly. He loves it!

When this Acer goes out System76 will be offering the next laptop I buy.

No, a new keyboard isn't the issue now. When I was installing a new keyboard the clip on the cable connection for the backlight cable broke off, and I literally cannot see a way to put it back on. Note that my eyesight has suffered after a prolonged illness that nearly killed me. Replacing the keyboard was a HUGE stride forward in my recovery and I was glad I could do it. I'm somewhat unhappy without backlighting but I can live without it. Or, I may at some point do as Snowhog suggested and send it in for you guys to repair. But I REALLY don't want to be without the laptop at this point. I've only just gotten better enough to read and post on forums again, and I prefer my nice, big-screened Kudu for that purpose rather than some of my other devices. FWIW, I have an original Kudu Pro from 2014 with a 17.3" screen.

@DoYouKubuntu I'm very happy to hear you've gotten better! I can understand not being with my gadgets for any long period of time.

It sounds like the plastic lock on the motherboard connection broke. You could use something to keep the connection of the keyboards backlight ribbon cable to the motherboard.

The original Kudu is quite nice with that size screen!

yes I have a 3-4 year old system76 bonox8(bonobo extreme) and O yes I love it and haven't had any problems with it except I think the CD drive is going out ,,,it might just knead re-seating but I don't use it hardly so haven't gotten round to checking .

and yes I did eventually replace the installed Ubuntu-14.04 ,,,,,,,,in fact I carved up the 500GB system drive into several partitions and the 1TB storage drive was converted to the BTRFS file system + I finally converted one of the system partitions to it as well.

I love this thing despite it being large and heavy all but 10lb ,,,,think mobile work station rather than laptop , the CPU in it is fast and still 3-4 years later sales for over $500 in the box .

I forgot to answer my own question from my OP: I used the preinstalled Ubuntu (with Unity, IIRC) for a day or two before giving in to the KDE girl in me and installing Kubuntu.

LOL yes all the boxes I have had were throw outs I reworked with other throw out parts until my mother bought me a HP-G62 when thay were new 5-6 years ago.

the desktop I have sitting in the corner of the living room I was asked to get rid of ,,,,,and dragged it out from under their bed raped in a blanket ,,,,,get this ,,,because it was locked out of being able to login with an official looking FBI background saying that they had to pay a $300.00 dollar fine for having been to porn sites ,,,,,LOL

I said I could probably fix the problem for them ,,,but was told "gust get rid of it" so a "dd" of the drive and a Kubuntu-14.04 install later it has been the media server for the TV for a few years now

I got the System76 Bonobo extreme when I got some inheritance $ ,,,,,$2,400.00 US ,,,,the first box I ever bought myself and spent the $ so perhaps I would have something that would still be at least a moderately equipped box in 10 years ,,,,,its been 3-4 now and it's still a quite relevant piece of hardware.
