    Ubuntu Servers

I know "Kubuntu Forums" exists to support the Kubuntu OS, but I'll bet a lot of Kubuntu users would love some community help in setting up a headless, Ubuntu Server to connect with their Kubuntu computers for media serving, NAS, etc. Just a thought because I'm trying to do just that. Thanks.

Actually,,,,,,, I do have a box (desktop in the corner) to serve media to ,,,,,,,,

      1) the TV it has a HDMI in so it effectively becomes the monitor for the computer ,,,,,,so not realey a sever so to speek in this situation.

      2) the HK AVR ,,,,through MINIDLNA ,,,,,but the AVR even though it's a Audio Video Recever ,,,,only dose audio through the minidlna connection.

      3) this laptop using the minidlna server on the desktop to streem the media on it(the desktop) to me or me and the TV when I switch out the HDMI ,,,,,in this situation I get both the audio and video + pictures ,,,,,,, I use kodi for this ,,,,,or the program "djmount" to mount the minidlna content to a directory in my home ,,,and then it acts just like local files and I can use any program I like to watch/listen to it .

      easy peasy ,,,,,,,,,,

the desktop runs Kubuntu 14.04 with not very much extra from a base install added ,,,,it's been so reliabel I havent even thought about upgrading it ,,,,,,guess I should eventualy get around to deciding when to do that ,,,,,,,, ha ha

        A note on "djmount"

once installed (its in the repo) it's use is as simple as ,,,,,,,,, with no configuring at all.

        Code:
        vinny@vinny-Bonobo-Extreme:~/Documents/upnp$ djmount ~/Documents/upnp/
        [I] Charset : successfully initialised charset='UTF-8'
give it a minute to Scan and mount the minidlna content ,,,,,,,,especially if their is a lot of files to scan and mount

        Code:
        vinny@vinny-Bonobo-Extreme:~/Documents/upnp$ ls
        devices vinny-Inspiron-560: minidlna VIVANNA-HP: Vivanna:
HUmmm the wifes windows box is serving UPnP ,,,nothing in it however

        Code:
        vinny@vinny-Bonobo-Extreme:~/Documents/upnp/vinny-Inspiron-560: minidlna$ ls
Browse Folders Music Pictures _search Video
all this was copied out of Dolphins embedded terminal and is displaying it as well ,,,,,along with right click "open with" options you would expect for the file type.
