I've started using it instead of Google. Not so much for privacy but, I hope, their results won't be filtered based on any ideology.

I have a couple of issues with qwant.

1: The twitter widget. I can't see how any company which is interested in protecting privacy would put in a function which sends search requests automatically to twitter from the default setup.

2: When you click to set qwant as an option in the browser search bar, it installs an add on. Prior to installing, I didn't know what the addon does and I don't understand why they are almost tricking you into installing it. Maybe it's legit but a search engine toolbar screams malware to me and all it claims to do is things that can be done with the browser anyway.

There is no Twitter icon on my QWant page.

I don't have an account on QWant but when you set your browsing and searching preferences they supply a URL that contains your settings, which you can create a menu bar link or copy into your browser search setting to make it your homepage link.

It's not an icon, it's a widget, you can look at it on it's own by clicking the "social" button at the side. It's searching the site in real time, rather than indexed pages.

Nope. When I click "Social", or any other icon on the left margin, I get a blank page with the search bar. Nothing else.

When I bring up QWant it has nothing on it except an empty search box. From there, when I click any of the icons on the left side the main panel stays the same, except when it click Music. Then it shows a block of boxes labeled with the genres, but no preselected listings. Then, with "web" selected, I put "anything" in the search box and click the search icon. I get one ad in the upper right corner and the rest are listings of "anything". If I click the "Socials" icon and search for "anything" I get a bunch of twitter and facebook listings, but mostly twitter. I've never gotten anything like what that video shows, but then I've configured QWant to be sparse.
