It seems our YouTubing overlaps. I've been following Quidsup and Joe C. for several months now. Also Explaining Computers Dot Com, he's a little quirky but knows his stuff. I prefer folks who get to the point and say what they have to say. I hate the ones that hem and haw and take 30 minutes to deliver 10 minutes of information. It's like they think they're having a cup of coffee with you and want to have small-talk before getting to the point.

Frankly, I'd NEVER found an instructional youtube video that I could watch long enough to be helpful until this morning. We just bought an old boat and I was looking for info on the outboard motor and there's a guy that did it right - No intro, no "Hi again everyone" like I'm one of his fans or whatever - just right to the point. 180 seconds of video with all the important parts in it and no unneeded chatter or useless video showing a lengthy process when it wasn't necessary. He demonstrated the problem, explained the operation, showed the parts involved, did the job, and showed the results. Normally, I close the webpage before they get to content. It's like their all trying to be TV hosts or something.

And while I'm complaining - could someone please explain why people do "Un-boxing" videos? I just don't understand the purpose. I mean, who watches those? People can't afford a new Xbox or whatever so they watch someone else un-box one? Has to be the dumbest thing on youtube - even dumber than the Mentos in soda bottles videos.

Believe me, the DUMBEST videos on YT are the ones in which young males deliberately allow themselves to be struck in the gonads, and are surprised when they realize how painful it is. My youngest grandson just loves those videos and similar ones which demonstrate that the performer is totally lacking in gray matter. I explained to him that what they are really doing is taking their genes out of the gene pool, and that is a good thing.

He thought out in advance what he would say and what his camera angles would be. He probably did one or more trials until he got what he wanted just right. IOW, making good videos is hard work. I'm a Minecraft video viewer and presenters like MumboJumbo, Ethos, K1 Inc and a few others have large numbers of subscribers because they plan in advance every second and every word of the videos they publish. That's why they make the big bucks. When you have 250k-500K subscribers or more and each video gets 100K-300K views on average, and you get, say, $2/1K views, that's $200-$600 per video. Put out 12 videos a month and that's a good income! Until YT demonetizes you.

Exactly!

1) If you don't have a mounted camera or a very steady hand, don't make a video.
2) If the washing machine, dishwasher, cats/dogs/kids, are making noise in the background, don't make a video.
3) If you don't know the difference between good and bad lighting/audio, don't make a video.
4) If you don't know your subject well enough or haven't practiced a script(haven't gotten your ducks in a row)don't make a video.
5) If you can't make your presentation without every third "word" being um or something similar, don't make a video.

Several years ago when I was a Mid-Level-Manager, I was told a couple hours before a company-wide meeting that I would be giving a 5 minute presentation about my department. I was not good! The next day I got out a phone book (remember those?) and found some local Toastmasters groups, a couple of which I promptly joined. I participated in TM for about two years and quickly became one of the better speakers. Know your limitations.
