Note that this will not include any extra hardware support, so there will be a very large number of devices that won't work, barring manufacturers divulging their secrets and/or other factors preventing useful development on reverse engineering things. -
Yeah, this is one of the few things we can't do well. I sure hope some makers move to the "light" side...Comment

The problem sometimes in not just the manufacturers of the readers lack of support, even minimally, it is iirc sometimes the method of storing and encrypting the saved fingerprints, often actual images.
Somewhere, I did read one of the major culprits had pledged to make these more Linux friendly, but existing readers were still a no-go.Comment
- Please do not use the CODE tag when pasting content that contains formatting (colored, bold, underline, italic, etc).
The CODE tag displays all content as plain text, including the formatting tags, making it difficult to read. - The following Topic Prefixes are designated for use in Community Cafe:
