Skull Island - a movie review

My son took my grandson and me to see Skull Island. We used "StratoLoungers". Very nice. It was their second viewing.

There are two things about the movie that are awesome and worthy of an Academy Award.
    1) Samuel Jackson
His acting made the movie. Awesome performance.
    2) Who ever did the CGI.
Best I've every seen. Kong is believable. So are the other creatures. You'd swear you were watching a movie showing real creatures. Nothing a clunky as Godzilla.

Action packed from beginning to end with lots of funny one-liners. Example: Goodman, who has lost LOTS of weight, is a member of the infamous MONARCH committee. He's got a meeting with a Senator to get funding for an expedition to Skull Island because, as we learn later, he has reason to believe it has lots of giant monsters. A Taxi lets him and his cohort off at entrance to the capital. It's 1973 and lots of Viet Nam war protesting is going on. Reminds one of Antifa. Goodman looks around as says "We'll never see this much confusion in Washington ever again". The environment and the way he says it makes the punch line.

Want gore? Bucket loads, but some of the shoot'm ups kids play these days show worse. No porn, almost no profanity. Action, action, action. Jackson's character develops a hate relationship with Kong ... eye to eye.

CGI in movies has come a LONG WAY, that's for sure! And if the director has a nice film budget, well....

What I find really interesting is the behind the scenes making of these movies; how the CGI elements are wire-framed using real actors in some cases. As I said, CGI has come a long way.

CGI has come so far that today it is almost impossible to tell CGI from reality.

Samuel L Jackson was terrific: "It's time we showed Kong ... that MAN is king!"

Thanks, Dad, for getting me started on Kubuntu Neon.

Thanks, Snowhog, for helping to get my forum account working properly.

This n00b has a lot to learn about Neon and the btrfs file system!

        Cheers!
